Kandy Rain’s dreams of a major record deal have been dashed after being voted off The X Factor in the first live show of 2009.

The girl band were forced into a sing-off against Rachel Adedeji after the two acts brought in the least number of votes from viewers of last night's show. The ex-strippers belted out Christina Aguilera’s ‘Fighter', with Rachel opting for a more subdued performance of Pink’s ‘Nobody Knows’.

Louis Walsh was absent from the show following the tragic death of Stephen Gately - the judge had been close with the singer since Boyzone's conception in 1993 - leaving the three remaining judges to choose which act would be on their way home.

Dannii and Cheryl voted to dismiss Kandy Rain, but Simon voted for Rachel. As their category's mentor, Louis' vote automatically went to Kandy Rain - so it was back to the public’s original vote to decide who was kept in the competition. After marginally out-performing the group in the orginal televote, Rachel was given the second chance at glory.

It was a star-studded affair with Alexandra Burke performing her new single ‘Bad Boys’ with Flo-Rida, while Robbie Williams delivered a comeback performance of new single ‘Bodies’, shouting: “It’s good to be back!”

Kandy Rain promised to carry on as a group, declaring, “You will see more of Kandy Rain,” during The Xtra Factor.

I fail to see what all the fuss is about,the whole thing is rigged anyway. Do you good people really beleive that the eventual winner is just some ordinary bod off the street who happens to be able to sing? If you do, more fool you for giving Simon and his cronies your money by phone voting. Especially when the votes count for nothing, they already know who the winner is going to be. It is a fix from start to finish, and should be banned, especially the early stages where no-hopers are given the red card through to the next round when the organisers know full well that they are just being strung along for later humiliation purposes. These people running such programmes should be investigateed for fraud. Ban all the so called reality programmes, they are about as real as fairies at the bottom of the garden

Long overdue, glad they have gone. Every week their appauling singing was concealed by massess of professional backing singers. All they did was theatrics, which none of us can see when you listen to a song on the radio or cd. Good decision, Joe to win I hope great range and huge versatility, be nice to have a male winner for a change!

I've been watching X Factor since it came onto our screens but I must be honest, last night if Jedward had stayed again I would have turned it off and not watched it again. Lucie should never have gone. It was a disgrace. I know Jedward are entertaining but X Factor have always been a singing competition so next year judges especially Louis Walsh lets stick to what its suppose to be. Olly Murs is the best and I think he should win. He's got the voice, the entertainment factor the looks and well he's got the X FACTOR

Danyl murdered the beautiful 'Careless Whisper', just cannot take to him. Olly was so dignified in the bottom 2, if he was shocked,he didn't show it. Danyl should have been in the bottom 2- with Lloyd, gorgeous to look at but too weak a voice to win. I have always been a fan of the Xfactor but this season is fast becoming a farce. To me its all about who is consistantly improving and can actually sing. Last Sunday evening in the 'sing off' I was not amazed to see Lloyd but Jamie yes. I will admit Jamie has not been my favourite from the word go, but in the sing off he was the better performer. Young Lloyd did struggle with song. I think Lloyd is lovely but he is not a recording artist, at least not yet. For that matter neither is Jamie but he was the better singer on Sunday. Also when they have the 'sing off' the judges always state that it is the performance they carry out in the 'sing off' that will bejudged not what happened on Saturday night. Therefore when the judges become cowards and hand it to the public vote, the public vote is based on what happened on Saturday night and not in the 'sing off', so how can they base the decision on that vote. It is completely unfair. Perhaps they should do away with the 'sing off' and when the votes are counted from Saturday's performances whoever has the lowest votes leaves the competition. It may not be good viewing and a little harsh but really at the end of the day someone still goes home and to be honest if your good enough you will stay.

Jamie being voted off is not a surprise. He claims to be a rocker and on Queen night, he had a chance to go for it and what does he choose to sing? Radio Ga Ga! Not tie your mother down or fat bottomed girls or a fast version of we will rock you. His voice was thin, he tried to emulate some of freddie's stage mannerisms with his hand movements. It was an awkward performance. However, I don't agree with Louis psychologically berating him every week. That'sa just stupid and immature of him. Jamie now has to pick himself up and find his own voice! Is there a market for him? Time will tell but in the meantime he should also learn about the music biz side of things as well.

What a WAIST of good talent, and an insult to intelligence - Simon has completely lost the plot, he had the chance to pull this show around and give the real talent of the show a chance to shine. Very poor decision, but forget about the public who are making stupid votes for the twins. Jamie's exit is all about Louis Walsh and his dislike of Jamie. Before the sing off started, everyone knew it was going to deadlock. The better singers are being voted off and the show has become a joke, because it is not a singing contest. Louis voted Jamie off because of a dislike, and didn't go with the better singer. Last week, Simon did the same. Lets face it Sting was right, the judges aren't informed about talent, and if this is what the show is now about, tactical battles and personal dislikes, then get it off the air as soon as possbile, and if there is a need for a singing contest, create a different contest with informed judges who did it the right wasy and know what they are talking about.

The winner of the X-Factor was already chosen almost at the beginning, it's just going through the formalities

It's time for Louis to go. Jamie's performance last night was far better than Lloyds. Even if Jamie had given the best performance ever seen on X factor Louis would have voted against him. None of the other judges would have behaved in this way. Louis is rude to the audience, his fellow judges, the contestants and Dermot. He is a disgrace to X factor and the music industry. Why can't he conduct himself like the other judges. His attitude is really spoiling the spirit of the show

Well I said I wouldn't watch it this week and I didn't and I'm glad I didn't. Jamie is gone and the talentless ones continue on.

I am completely turned off this show and didn't miss not watching it at all. It has gone from being a great show to being nothing more than a joke with kids who have no talent and judges who won't make a decision.

What a pity I always thought this show would have extreme longevity but if it continues in it's present direction it's never going to survive. Even with all the hype about Jedward the show has become predictable and boring.

Shame on ITV and the judges, particularly Simon Cowell who up until this point I always had a deal of respect for. Not always tactful but usually factual. He's become a wimp judge and while I'm sure he's done it as he'll make millions off people voting he has destroyed the integrity of the show.

OK here are my thoughts again since they didn't make it the first time: the show should be renamed "Britain's Got XFactor Talent" since it isn't a singing contest anymore. I won't be watching it because I have switched off after the weekend's fiasco, which was an insult to viewers. However, I do hope the twins go on and win so that Simon ends up with well-deserved egg on his smug face and the world laughs at him like he is laughing at anyone who used to believe in him.

Its like a modern day Roman Arena, but this time the contestants are being thrown to the judges instead of the lions. Shame on all of you judges. I for one will NOT be watching it anymore. None of this is the fault of the twins. Louis' fault for picking them in the first place and Simon's fault most definitely for bringing the contest into deadlock yet again. He tells Lucie how well she did on Saturday and then can't decide between her or John and Edward. That says it all ! The show has now been lowered to nothing more than money making ridicule. What an absolute disgrace this show has become. I dont think anybody should waste their money on voting for their favourite because its just a waste of time and lining Simon Cowells pockets. Im sure ALL of Wales voted for our beautiful Lucie last night, I dont believe she would have received the fewest votes, it bull.... Starting next Saturday I'll be swtiching channels. What a farce and an insult to viewers X Factor has become. Stop pretending, Simon, and call the next show "Britain's Got XFactor Talent" because this show no longer has anything to do with singing ability! What was SC doing on Sunday? He has been slating J&E since they arrived and had the opportunity to see them off the show last night and he didn't. I think his reasons were ill- founded as LJ has a superb voice which will mature as she gets older. Her pitch and diction were perfect and she has an incredible stage presence. J&E's talent is to dance around like a couple of dervishes and sing simple tunes in unison. There has been no singing talent at all from them. SC has repeatedly said "this is a singing contest" and he patently forgot this.
Come on Simon, forget the marketing and your tactical voting. Do as you say you should on a sing off and vote on the song. I am a great fan of yours and I think you let yourself down badly.

This show has become a farce. Don't tell me that Simon did not know the result of the public vote when he supported the twins. Lucy had no chance. The more outrageous the decisions - the more publicity for SC & his ego. He has lost any faith that the public had in him - as he KNEW that by voting for the boys - Lucy would go. At least in previous shows he stuck to his opinions no matter how contrversial they were. By voting for the twins he has lost enormous respect after 'slagging them off whenever he could' & then saving them to boost the ratings because he has suddenly realised that the huge support that they have had is because of his unpopular opinion - nothing to do with talent. I guarantee that within 2/3 weeks he will have made sure that they are 'gone'- they are not that good anyway. But Lucy has a fine voice & deserves to be treated better than this. SHAME on you Cowell

Don't watch this show all the time, but after Simon "coward" Cowells decision to keep what has to be the most untalented pair ever in the contest, now the X Factor is all about money for Simon. Lucie sung in my opinion the best song of this contest only to be kicked out because of a gutless wonder. Yes Simon can sit there and justify that he did not vote Lucie into the final two, but he could have done the decent thing.
