Kerry Katona: The After Birth, Sunday 9pm, MTV One
Posted by Jane Murphy
Oh, what's to become of Kerry Katona? OK, I know there are more important things to worry about - but having watched last night's thoroughly depressing one-off post-mortem of her recent MTV reality series, I can't help feeling a little bit sorry for her.
This one-hour programme consisted of a glammed-up Kerry sitting on the sofa, talking us through various clips from the show she's proud to call "car crash TV". Why "proud"? "Well at least it means people watched it," she says.
And why did Kerry and her much-maligned husband Mark Croft allow MTV's cameras into their home in the first place? "I wanted everyone to see the real me and Mark," she explains. "But I don't think we came across very well."
Therein lies the problem. Kerry's "job" is to be a modern celebrity. She really is famous for being famous - and her income depends on her willingness to open up every aspect of her sometimes quite mundane life for our "entertainment". Every trip to the supermarket, every argument, every fart: it's all there on MTV or in the pages of OK! magazine, if you look hard enough.
But because Kerry's a celebrity, so-called friends and even close relatives have been all too keen to make a fast buck by feeding tittle-tattle about her to the tabloids. "What right have they to sell stories about my personal life?" Kerry rants, looking genuinely distraught.
The way to stop these stories, of course, would be to step out of the limelight completely. But Kerry can't do that - because then she won't make any money. "I worry if there aren't any paparazzi outside the house," she admits.
It's hard to imagine what she'd do with her life if she wasn't in the public eye - but after watching this show, I can't help thinking anything might be worth a go...

i absolutly love watchin kerry its dead funny!!! she is from warrington & i'm from wigan everyone calls mark & her relationship but i think they are just a typical northen couple soo funny i have the banter with my partner.
she doesn't deserve 2 be attacked by the press & public they should leave her alone if they don't like her & mark don't bloody watch them.
as for family & friends screwing them over they should wash there hands of them!!

There are a few people that I would like to push out of a hot air balloon and Kerry Katona is one of them....along with Heather Mills, Jodie Marsh, Chanelle and Chantelle...you get my drift.

I hardly think sniffing is a side effect of taking medication, if anything it's more of a nervous/comfort thing that she does but it's very annoying anyhow!

I think you'll find the sniffing and slurring are probably due to the medication Kerry takes for bipolar!! That said in her defence I'm now going to agree with the rest of you that she would do well to step out of the public eye. I think she is quite loud and Mark is a bit of a waster but dont doubt they love one another for sincere reasons. I also think they are probably very nice people and a loving family but things have just gone too far and no matter what they do now everyone will criticise and put them down and be waiting for them to fail.

For so long I kind of liked Kerry and felt sorry for her. That show last night was an embarrassment, what was with the constant sniffing after everything she said and the slurring of her words as if she was drunk?? She comes across as a lazy, mouthy person! She is doing herself no favours and needs to keep her head down and concentrate on her family!

I watched the program last night. which I found very odd. she is just showing what she is, a loud mouth cav who loves to read bout herself in the papers, and her saying well if you are a celeb you have to except this blah blah blah what is she like she isnt a celeb, shes famous for being married to a memeber of westlife. and to be frank the way she acted on the show it seemed to be that mark (husband) was more like a carer rather than a husband, all she done was moan and whinge etc etc bout her illness blah blah well there are many people who also suffer from this you dont see them whinging and moaning they live in the real world and have to get on with things.
