Let’s just try to get through this without mentioning Alan Partridge, yeah? Whoops, too late. The second series of Steve Coogan’s latest comic creation is in full swing and Tommy Saxondale is proving to be just as entertaining as Radio Norwich’s third most popular DJ – and arguably more complex.
Where Partridge was acutely about Coogan’s delivery, Saxondale’s a dialogue thing. The script’s so full of gems - “You’re a bit of a d*** sometimes, aren’t you?” “We’re all a bit of a d***. It’s the human condition” - you can feel them passing you by, waving at you for being a slow-witted idiot. But in a good way, if that makes any sense.
Tonight’s episode sees pest controller Tommy returning to his old school. You may remember Alan Partridge also did this in series 2 of I’m Alan Partridge. But having seen the inventiveness on display so far, I’m guessing all similarities will end there.

great show, look forward to watching more. anyone seen the fonejacker? http://www.fonejacker.eu
now thats some funny television.

As you so correctly noticed I have the ability to turn over, however, I commented on not the ability to change channels, I commented on the sad sack that is the drug fuelled Steve Coogan and his lack of talent and innovation, but as the Brits are obsessed with has-beens, wannabees, and no-bodies its par for the course really that he is so popular with the average person in the street or the TV forum... Have a nice day now...

Actually I dont watch it, as I have evolved beyond the level of monkey butlers and my opposing forefinger and thumb allow me to change channel readily... Anyone with any sense of humour must realise that anything classed as a "comedy" on BBC2 after 9pm or came from BBC3 isnt funny at all... people with real talent not some recycled dross never get the chance to be shown on the TV cos of people who think " its cool" to watch this kind of trash.. as for 30 channels? you still in the 1990's? I randomly guess at well over 200 are available maybe more on Sky for a small subscription each month...

I would venture to suggest that anyone who doesn't like Coogan, Gervais or Pegg is slightly unbalanced. No offence, like.

i see. so you fancy yourself as some kind of tv dictator do you?
you can't expect everything on tv to cater for you, and you can't assume you have the right to deny other people their viewing pleasures.
you don't like steve coogan, i do, so i will watch it, and you will probably watch it too as you seem to be incapable of changing the channel, and then waste even more of your life whinging about how you don't like it...
what are you proposing that the bbc put in steve coogan's slot? yet more three pints of lager repeats? trust me, there is space for saxondale in the schedule, and there are about 30 other channels which you can watch "something which is actually funny, original, and creative" on instead. i'm not stopping you...

.. and why dont you just rent the complete works of Steve Coogan on Dvd, all 30 minutes of it, and let other people watch something which is actually funny, original, and creative, instead of the same old trash...
Posted by: Slomo Pickle | 14 September 2007 at 14:19
but i like watching him, so how about you just change the channel and watch something else instead? no need to deprive the rest of us, is there?

Steve " I'm the same in all my guises" Coogan is absolute trash, and an absolute waste of TV space, hes in the same genre of so called "funny men" as Ricky Gervais and Simon Pegg, Talentless and unfunny... get rid of them off of the TV screens, I'd rather watch the Testcard!
