Let's follow Frankie

Afternoon everyone, bit of a lazy day today and I've decided to  follow Frankie Dettori at Glorious Goodwood.

I'm going to have £20 win on Folk Opera at 5/2 (2.15pm) and also £20 win on Dandy Man also at 5/2 (2.50pm).

Just for good measure I'll have have a £10 win double on the pair.

It really is as easy as that!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on last night's Panorama, which I thought was top drawer stuff - much like the first one - I've got a lot of time for Paul Kenyon. But was it really six years ago?!

All-time record: Bets 61; Winners 19; Losers 41; Non-runners 1; Profit £623.18.

New Olympics blog: Get voting!

Redgravecoe_31july_pa_200The clock is ticking to the start of the Beijing Olympics as Team GB get ready to strike gold in all manner of sporting disciplines, with their athletes bidding to book their names in Games folklore.

Whatever happens over the next few weeks in the Chinese capital, Britain already boasts a raft of Olympic heroes over the years from Harold Abrahams of Chariots of Fire fame through to two-time Athens gold medallist Kelly Holmes, who won the 800m and 1500m titles four years ago.

Ahead of the Games, we've taken a trip down memory lane and picked out the greatest British Olympians of all time. And we want your vote to decide whether Holmes, Coe, Redgrave, Pinsent or someone altogether different is your greatest ever Olympian from home soil.

Nelson's Column... Abject England

PaulcollingwoodThis column said a week ago that the selectors needed to get it right at Edgbaston. Today's hideous events have proved they failed miserably.

1) Why is Paul Collingwood playing? He may be a great bloke and fielder, a useful man to have in the bowling attack and an Ashes double centurion - but the man IS NOT IN FORM. In fact, he's so hopelessly out of nick, he wouldn't get runs in village cricket. What hope is there for county batsmen like Ravi Bopara - averaging 55 - if a batsman with 98 runs THIS SEASON is selected ahead of him, one match after being dropped and having done nothing since being left out? Team England is a becoming a closed shop.

2) Why is Andrew Flintoff batting seven? Absurd beyond absurd. Either England back him as an all-rounder or they don't. One game he's considered inferior to Tim Ambrose; a week later he's better. England won The Ashes with a five-man attack and Flintoff providing balance at six. No other side would play a four-man attack including a world-class all-rounder. England have a luxury - USE IT!

3) What to do with Michael Vaughan? How long can this undoubted stellar batsman be carried? Is his captaincy that good? Such unquantifiable questions will rage until Vaughan gets some runs. But it doesn't look like happening and neither will anyone drop him - not until after next year's Ashes anyway. And who would take over the reins if he was dismissed? How would the precious, emotionally-delicate dressing room cope with that if they can't hack the appearance of Darren Pattinson?

The whole thing is a horrid, filthy mess.

What do you think? Have your say below.

Sayif and Santa's Son for glory?

Morning everyone, as expected Conduit landed the odds on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood, but just for a moment or two I thought our each-way selection Hebridean was going to win the Gordon Stakes.

Elsewhere, as advised over at Galway joint favourite Kerryhead Windfarm's jumping let it down as it trailed down the field.

Sayifblog Looking at today's racing and it's all about sitting back and watching Henrythenavigator land the Sussex Stakes (Glorious Goodwood 3.30pm).

I fancy Sayif to finally get his head in front at the third time of asking in the Vintage Stakes (2.50pm Glorious Goodwood). I'll have £20 win at 7/2.

I'm also going to have £10 win on Santa's Son in the Galway Plate (Galway 3.40pm) at the starting price.

Good luck with your betting today, let me know your thoughts and don't forget to watch Panorama as once again racing comes under the spotlight.

All-time record: Bets 59; Winners 19; Losers 39; Non-runners 1; Profit £653.18.

Take a chance on Hebridean

Morning everyone, I hope the overnight rain hasn't dampened your enthusiasm for Glorious Goodwood and day two of the Galway Festival.

I'm going to go against the odds-on Conduit in the Gordon Stakes (Glorious Goodwood 2.50pm) and instead back the Aidan O'Brien runner Hebridean each-way at 5/1. I'll have £10 each-way at that price.

Aidanobrien Let's not kid ourselves Conduit should win. The Sir Michael Stoute runner beat our selection fair and square last time at Royal Ascot.

Hebridean also has to saddle a Group 3 penalty for his Gallinule Stakes win, but racing is a funny old game and I think Johnny Murtagh might just conjure up a win.

Looking at the Galway card, I reckon Kerryhead Windfarm is well worth opposing in the 5.45pm race. The likely favourite isn't always foot perfect and I think the way the fences come quickly at Galway will find out the Adrian Maguire-trained chaser.

Good luck if you're having a bet today. Come on don't be shy, I'm sure there is someone out there with an opinion on today's action.

All-time record: Bets 58; Winners 19; Losers 38; Non-runners 1; Profit £673.18.

Festival fever - Goodwood and Galway

Afternoon everyone,  I'm not sure if it's all the sunshine, but I've got festival fever - no not Glastonbury - but the other GGs - Goodwood and Galway...

I hope a few of you lumped on Duke of Marmalade on Saturday as the Aidan O'Brien four-year-old landed the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes in sensational style - digging deep to regain the advantage over Papal Bull.

MarmaladeI've got nothing against Sir Michael Stoute, but I couldn't help but raise a smile as I watched the replays of the Newmarket handler's expressions as he thought Papal Bull had 'done' Duke of Marmalade.

O'Brien's string always just seem to find more and more, it's a bit like watching Tony McCoy in the saddle. I'm sorry, but too many in this game seem prepared to save a horse for 'another day'. Winning is everything.

I'll be having a bet all week as we celebrate Glorious Goodwood and also dip our toes across the Irish Sea for the Galway Festival.

I'll ask again, anyone with anything worthwhile to say please send me your comments.

All-time record: Bets 58; Winners 19; Losers 38; Non-runners 1; Profit £673.18.

Worst football kits... Your view

IanwrightAs clubs start to parade their new kits in a host of meaningless pre-season friendlies, we decided to name and shame some of the worst from years gone by.

You can view our top ten by clicking here, but we've no doubt missed many out so let us us know your favourite fashion faux pas using the boxes below.

Marmalade to serve it up at Ascot

Morning everyone, hope you've enjoyed some sunshine this week and backed a winner or two along the way.

Last Saturday Katies Tuitor (7/1) did the business at Market Rasen and rewarded those who supported the Charlie Mann hurdler in the Summer Hurdle at an advised stake of £10 each-way.

Sadly my other selection Oumeyade failed to sparkle in the Summer Plate.

However, my attention now turns to the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday.

ObrienI'm not going to be original with my selection it is Duke of Marmalade. I'll have £30 win at the general 5/6 available on Friday morning.

Aiden O'Brien continues to mop up the Group 1 races this season and I see no reason to suggest things won't go his way at Ascot (4.20pm) on Saturday.

Next week promises to be a real betting bonanza with Glorious Goodwood taking centre stage - go if you can - it's just the most stunning setting.

But don't forget Galway - it's a great meeting to go and attend if you ever get the chance - the town is buzzing and the racing comes thick and fast - it really is a great experience.

As ever, if anyone cares to post their tips and selections please feel free to do so.

All-time record: Bets 57; Winners 18; Losers 38; Non-runners 1; Profit £648.18.
