Is Amir Khan ready? Your views...
Amir Khan extended his unbeaten record last night after a resounding victory over Martin Kristjansen at the Bolton Arena.
Khan won via a seventh round stoppage after flooring the experienced Dane three times before the referee called a halt to the bout.
The 21-year-old dominated the fight and never looked in danger after delivering a mature performance that brings him one step closer to the world title.
Khan has everything required to be a world champion. Incredible physique and unbelievable hand speed along with strength, punching power and accuracy.
So now it’s time for Khan to step up to the plate and see what the Olympic silver medalist is all about. Give him the shot at Nate Campbell’s WBO lightweight belt and we’ll see how good this kid really is.
What did you think of Khan’s performance last night? Is he the real deal or are there still question marks over his ability? Let us know by adding your comments in the boxes below.

Time to give all them millions of pound back to the people, has been exposed as a fake, only where he is for political reasons, lets all hype up another random now.
Can I fight him now please, would like an easy million with Frank warren behind me. Khan a joke, always will be.

I was concerned in his last fight that just lasted 20 seconds -mismatch - waste of everybodys time?
This time the oppenent was better until the 7th. I want Amir to win but am concerned about his progression and the fights he is being given.

Sophie, in boxing accurate punching is essential otherwise you are just wasting energy which boxers cannot afford to do. Feigning punches is used for tactical reasons but these are not full punches. If you watch TV footage of Amir Khan's fights you will see the high number of inaccurate fully committed punches Khan throws due to his lack of skill in throwing accurate punches. Then compare his opponent and you will notice his opponent land a higher percentage of accurate punches though perhaps not often enough.
On the issue of age are you as fit at 30 as you are when you are 21, generally no, as you grow older your heart rate decreases, ageing, etc. Experience can sometimes give older fighter an edge along with other factors but often many boxers are past their best by their early-mid thirties with a few exceptions i.e Calzage etc.
The fights Amir Khan has had to date indicate that his opponents are only there to build his reputation for reasons stated earlier. Why do all these ex-champions have to travel to fight him in Bolton? He is supposed to be moving up, if they had any real status he should have to travel to fight them. To my mind I prefer to see real talented boxers rather than PR pushed boxers like Amir Khan.

amir khan is awesome! he has seen and dealt with boxers that are twice his age! in boxing you dont always aim your punchly directly otherwise it would be ova in he first round so phil get over it, 2nd if he hadnt had hit his opponenet he would have lost, seeing as though he won shows that he is a boxer.Amir has won all his fights and has proved all his critics wrong. AMIR KHAN IS THE SPORTING FUTURE OF BRITAIN!

He is the total best so far after calzage and he does have what it takes, he beat people with higher record he got what a total champion needs but i have to say he is young!

He is completely Not Ready
He's tooo young

come on guys and girls.im starting to warm to khan.that fight last night was a good test for him.kristjanson was no mug and likesophie said he is still young and he does fly the flag.get behind him

Although Khan has dynamic hand speed i'm still not convinces if he is a "legend" in waiting. Questions have to be asked about the choice of opponent. No doubt the guy had massive courage, but was never going to stop Khan.Put him in with some top ranked American fighters and my opinion is that he would be exposed as the limited fighter he is. Putting him up against a declining champion is not the way to make a Legend.

Gazza - I agree Khan is overrated but how can you say Calzaghe is overrated? He's probably Britain's greatest ever boxer. He beat Lacy with ease, saw off Kessler and will beat Hopkins in a couple of weeks.
Posted by: jimmy | 06 April 2008 at 17:06
khan is another overrated british fighter like calzage who has been fed fighters who they know are no risk apart from eubank who was passed his best anyway
Posted by: gazza | 06 April 2008 at 17:03
he is the best young fighter we have got in britain at the moment and we should all get behind him and sopport him

Another fine example of a fight where Khan wins rounds on points by:
A)missing his opponent completely ending up punching thin air.
B)repeatedly hitting his opponents boxing gloves with the few punches that do manage to hit his opponent.
Other than that the usual tactic to winning the fight just run forward and barge your opponent over or throw a lot of wide punches in a short space of time to make it look like your opponent can't defend himself so getting the ref to stop the fight.
Khan has yet to throw any clean KO punches and rarely gets any clean punches in at all. Khan is being spoon fed victories more for political multicultural wellbeing and commercial flogging of merchandise than because of any genuine boxing talent. The one time he did step outside of Britain for a real fight against Kinderland in the Olympics he was totally outclassed.

As soon as Khan fights a half decent boxer he will lose and lose big style. He hasn't fought anybody of any threat as his team keep him sheltered from the "good fighters" The sooner the better as i'm concerned. The guys over rated big time.

I totally agree.
Posted by: sophie | 06 April 2008 at 16:10
Amir Khan is quality. i think he will be a world champion soon and when he does he will only improve so soon enough he will be the best there is.
Posted by: Jamie | 06 April 2008 at 15:42
guys i think your forgetting that Amir has only just turned 21 and is faced with boxers who have been in the game that long.Kristjansen has had 23 fights and has won 19, Willie Lymond has had 30 fights and has won 28. my point is that he was faced with oppenents that had gud ratings, and if he had a glass jaw he would have long been a gonna.
