Our blogger braves the Basshunter album

Our blogger cracksOne man’s Herculean effort to sit through the entire Basshunter album.

He’s heading for top spot in the album chart, but Basshunter’s music isn’t for everyone, to say the least. Here, our intrepid blogger boldly attempts to listen to Now You’re Gone – The Album, in the office. This is his voyage of discovery.

Buoyant and raring to go, I stick the CD in the computer and there’s a treat before a note is even played. Up pops a window telling me to “fill in your details and you will be able to watch exclusive live performances, exclusive interviews and download some stunning photos from the Basshunter and Aylar galleries.”

Sidestepping temptation, it’s straight down to business:

‘Now You’re Gone’

Familiarity with the smash hit No.1 has bred tolerance. My hands are in the air at one point. People are giving me funny looks.

‘All I Ever Wanted’

Well, we’re front-loading the classics here – if we can be permitted to bend, break and dance on the grave of the definition of “classic”. I’m headbutting the keyboard with joy. I think it’s joy.

‘Please Don’t Go’

Looking forward to hearing how Basshunter makes the KC & The Sunshine Band standard his own. Expecting some stompy beats, synths that sound like they came free with a packet of Rice Krispies and vocals so distorted they’re a dead ringer for the lonely howl of an ever-expanding, endless, cold, cold universe. Well, whadd’ya know?

‘I Miss You’

Basshunter doesn’t “want to feel the way that I do”. I’m starting to understand his viewpoint. A lady’s singing now and there’s some sort of electro Morris dancing going on. This is possibly a hallucination.

‘Angel In The Night’

Laser-sharp keyboard riffs are taking me back to Ibiza circa 1992. To be honest, I’d settle for Bognor right now.

‘In Her Eyes’

I’m seeing spots.

‘Love You More’

My God, he’s actually managed to ruin what was originally a terrible Sunscreem record. There’s something almost noble about that.

‘Camilla’

Is self-harming really so bad?

‘Dream Girl’

Wow. Are those fairies?

‘I Can Walk On Water’

WELL I’D LIKE TO SEE YOU TRY…

‘Bass Creator’

I guess Linda has a point, and I suspect if I have to listen to "All I ever wanted" again I think I'll start taking drugs too.

ARE YOU READY?

What a nobstacle...

Your point is good, Linda. I did try and shuffle around in my seat, but got friction burns.

I'll give you a hint - it's better if you go into a club, pump a few chemicals into your system and start dancing.

I certainly prefer his Swedish-language stuff. Not only are the lyrics more original, but the videos are far more wacky and amusing.

You can't judge dance music by sitting down and listening to it - the clue's in the name: dance music.

Ugh, Basshunter is AWFUL. Just another mediochre dance artist - no different from the hundreds before him. These guys have managed to take the joys of Techno and distort it into something so monotonus, something with not a hint of emotion or soul, something robotic with only one purpose - to make hundreds of people mindlessly jump up and down. And people think Emo music is depressing...

Basshunter is amazing its bringing back the scouse house its just what the clubs need.

Okay firstly i disagree, if your'e jetting away this summer, indeed I and a few friends are then this album is certainly going to be a hit. It's full of electronic instrumentals, reptitive lyrics but it's great.

So against the critics i give this a 4/5 stars!!! Very Addictive.
