Miley’s rubbish rap

Posted by Jane Murphy

Miley Cyrus

Oh dear! US teen superstar Miley Cyrus upset her legions of fans a couple of days ago when she decided to close her Twitter account.

But why, Miley, why? How could someone who has so many fascinating, insightful things to say about the world (in 140 characters or less) suddenly turn her back on us in this way?

Well, the answer lies in this new video - which sees Ms Cyrus rapping (yes, rapping) about the reasons behind her Twitter-shunning decision. Be warned: it’s all a bit squirm-inducing…

Fair enough, Miley - but I'm sure there are a lot of positive aspects to Twitter, too. (Oooh - did you notice how I turned into an owl at the end of that sentence?)

Anyway, I think it’s time for a Tweet-tastic celebrity such as Stephen Fry - or possibly Phillip Schofield - to produce a pro-Twitter rap video. Over to you, boys…

Madonna and Lady GaGa in late-night fight!

Lady GaGa and Madonna

Oooh - look! It’s Madonna trying to pull Lady GaGa’s hair extensions out in a hilarious (if you like that sort of thing) skit on US TV show Saturday Night Live.

The feisty pair grappled, wrestled and sniped at one another during a spoof music show sketch - before kissing and making up, much to the whoop-tastic delight of the clearly hysterical studio audience.

Jennifer Aniston sings!

Jennifer Aniston

There was much excitement and uncontrollable whooping in the Ellen studio yesterday. (I know - what else is new?)

The reason? Cheeky host Ellen DeGeneres appeared to put guest Jennifer Aniston on the spot by “unexpectedly” making her showcase her singing voice…

So, based on that performance, would you put Jen through to the next round on American Idol? Tell us here.

Kanye West: America’s biggest jackass?

Posted by Jane Murphy

Kanye West, Taylor Swift

Heavens to Betsy - can you believe all the fuss about Kanye West’s misbehaviour at Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards?

To recap, 19-year-old country singer Taylor Swift was seconds into her acceptance speech for the Best Female Video gong - when Kanye jumped on stage, grabbed the microphone and declared that Beyoncé’s video was “one of the best of all time”.

Naturally, he received a round of boos for his efforts - and promptly became the topic of many angry celebrity Tweets. An example? Pink declared him the “biggest piece of s*** on Earth”. Ouch! Oh, and rumour has it that Barack Obama called him a “jackass”, which seems to sum up the situation quite succinctly.

But fast-forward 24 hours, and an apparently repentant Kanye appeared on Jay Leno’s late-night talk show to admit he'd been rude and now deeply regretted his actions:

Now, I have to admit I did start to feel a bit sorry for him halfway through that interview. After all, we’ve all done daft things after a few drinks then regretted it the following morning, haven’t we? It’s just that most of us don’t do it in front of 27 million TV viewers.

But then Taylor popped up on yesterday’s The View and revealed that Kanye hadn’t yet apologised to her in person.

“He hasn’t personally reached out or anything - but if he wanted to say hi, I would,” she insisted. “I’m not going to say that I wasn’t riled by it. I had to perform live five minutes later so I had to get myself back to the place where I could perform.”

Well - surprise, surprise - shortly after this on-screen revelation, Kanye did call Taylor to apologise. “He was very sincere in his apology, and I accepted that apology,” Taylor later told ABC News Radio. And asked if “going down the road, everything will be alright between you guys”, Taylor replied: “Yeah, definitely.”

Hmmm… perhaps they’ll get together to make a charity record and accompanying video now. Although, of course, Beyoncé would do it so much better…

What do you think about Kanye’s behaviour at the VMAs? Tell us here.

Victoria does The View

Posted by Jane Murphy

Victoria Beckham

Poor Victoria Beckham could barely get a word in edgeways when she tottered in for a guest appearance on The View yesterday afternoon. (Not familiar with The View? It’s the US version of Loose Women - with added legs.)

Topics up for discussion: Victoria’s shoes, Victoria’s clothes, Victoria’s perfume, Victoria’s husband… You get the picture?

Any amazing revelations? Well, no - not really. But Mrs B did get to explain why she’s always pictured swanning through airport lounges in tight-fitting designer clobber.

“I think it’s the way I was brought up,” she revealed. “When you travel, you always look nice. But I always have a tracksuit or my pyjamas in my bag, so I go into the toilet and put on something comfortable.” Hmmm… it all sounds like an unnecessary faff to me - but each to their own.

Madonna pays tribute to Jacko

Posted by Stewart Turner

Madonna at the VMAs

Madonna made a moving, heartfelt speech about Michael Jackson at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards in New York, telling the audience that everyone, including her, had been guilty of “abandoning” the dearly departed star.

In a rare public show of emotion, the Queen of Pop talked fondly of the time she spent with Jacko, and empathised with his battle against a "witch hunt" of public attention "so loud you're convinced your voice can never be heard".

Her Madgesty added that unlike the King of Pop, she had a childhood and "was allowed to make mistakes and find my own way in the world without being in the spotlight".

"We had allowed this magnificent creature who once set the world on fire to somehow slip through the cracks,” she added.

Is this Kate’s sexiest ever ad?

Posted by Jane Murphy

Kate Moss

Ooh-la-la! Kate Moss comes over all super-sexy in a new ad for Yves Saint Laurent’s Parisienne perfume.

Basically, our Kate caresses a rose on the back seat of a car while either fantasising about - or reliving - a romp with a mystery man. Oh, and there’s a Depeche Mode song playing in the background.

Ah yes, it sounds just like the average early ‘90s minicab ride around Croydon, doesn’t it?

Anyway, you can see the ad for yourself here:

Posh is a swinger, Cruz is a star!

Victoria Beckham, Cruz Beckham

Here’s Victoria Beckham hotfooting it into the swanky Fogo de Chao restaurant in Los Angeles yesterday evening. The occasion? Middle son Romeo’s seventh birthday celebrations (presumably McDonald’s was all booked up).

As ever, Mrs B was upstaged by youngest son Cruz - who’s clearly continuing that great Beckham family tradition of trying out fancy hairstyles in front of the paparazzi…

Cruz Beckham

What a star!

Meanwhile, in other Posh-related news, remember that ad she filmed for her dress collection when she was in London a few weeks ago? Well, it’s now “gone viral” (ie someone’s stuck it on YouTube) - so here it is for your perusal…

Just in case you missed her, Posh pops up in the bottom left-hand corner after around 53 seconds. Personally, I was too distracted by the unseemly sight of the model at the bus stop, allowing the train from her megabucks dress to scrape along the pavement. Tsk!

Britney Spears, Russell Brand

As you may already be aware, comb-shy granddad-botherer Russell Brand is lined up to host this year’s MTV Video and Music Awards in a couple of weeks’ time - despite having committed the cardinal sin of taking the p*** out of the Jonas Brothers during last year’s ceremony.

Still, clearly eager to make amends, Russ has been hard at work promoting the show - by starring in this new video with Britney Spears

Pottermania hits New York

Posted by Jane Murphy

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Ruper Grint

Blimey! Just 48 hours after Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had its London premiere, everyone involved had to hotfoot it across the Atlantic for the film’s first screening in the US.

So here’s Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint looking suitably glammed-up outside the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York - although I’m pleased to note that Rupert did at least have the decency to look a tiny bit tired. Keep smiling, Rupe - only another 10 premieres to go…

The star-studded event was also attended by half the cast of Ugly Betty and several once-high-profile US stars, who’ve been a tad off-radar recently. An example? Here’s Chevy Chase

 Chevy Chase

…who appears to have morphed into Jack Nicholson. Ah well, it happens to us all eventually.

And here’s Frasier star Kelsey Grammer with his daughter Mason

 Kelsey and Mason Grammer

In other news, the film’s stars have been doing the rounds of TV shows and interviews in the Big Apple. On Wednesday night, Emma appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, and was asked about that accidental knicker-flashing incident at the London premiere.

Her reply? “This was a small wardrobe malfunction - it happens. At least, I was wearing underwear! I’m still learning, I’m still learning!”

She’s right, you know. It takes some stars much longer to master the art of not flashing your bits in public places. Sharon Stone still has problems - and she’s 106 years old!

Anyway, you can watch the whole of Emma’s interview here…

Aussie PM: ‘Gordon is lowlife’

Posted by Jane Murphy

 Gordon Ramsay

Heavens to Betsy - it like Sachsgate all over again!

All hell’s broken loose Down Under since swear-o-matic chef Gordon Ramsay made some less-than-flattering comments about TV presenter Tracy Grimshaw. Not familiar with Tracy? Well, according to the Daily Mail, she’s “Australia’s answer to Fern Britton”.

To cut a long story short, Gordon made insensitive remarks about Tracy’s appearance during an interview with her last week. Referring to a facial mole, he asked: “Is that a wart? It looks like your sister’s on your top lip.” (Laugh? I thought I’d never start.)

Then over the weekend, he likened her to a pig in front of an audience of thousands at the Melbourne Food Fair.

The chef’s apparently inexplicable rudeness has provoked uproar in Australia - leading prime minister Kevin Rudd to step in and speak for the nation. “I think I can describe his remarks as reflecting a new form of low life,” a baffled Kevin told reporters. “I just drew a breath when I saw the sort of stuff he said about her. I just think that’s off, and offensive.”

Gordon’s “people” have since apologised unreservedly for any offence that may have been caused - insisting the chef’s comments were meant jokingly.

However, Ms Grimshaw herself gave this response on her TV show, A Current Affair, yesterday:

Hmmm… she’s not happy, is she?

So is this the end of the TV chef’s international superstardom? And is it really necessary for world leaders to get involved in celebrity spats? Tell us what you think.

Kerry goes back on GMTV

Posted by Jane Murphy

Kerry Katona

What better way to start the day?

I wolfed down my tea and toast this morning while watching Kerry Katona give her first live TV interview since that infamous appearance on This Morning last October.

This time, an upbeat Kezza was quizzed by GMTV’s Mr Nice Guy Andrew Castle - and appeared alongside a clinical psychologist, who was able to offer expert insights into Kerry’s bipolar disorder.

So what’s new? Well, Kerry still seems very hurt and upset by the criticism she’s received over her This Morning appearance. She also admitted she’d skipped taking her medication last night for fear of slurring her words again today.

You can see what else happened here:

Now, I’m certainly not Kerry’s biggest fan - and I’d rather watch paint dry than sit through her MTV reality show - but I do feel we should all cut her some slack and show a little more understanding where her illness is concerned.

But could she really be a role model for fellow sufferers? Or is it time for her to stop living her life in the public eye?

Tell us what you think.

Paris goes to France

 Paris Hilton

Everyone’s favourite hotel heiress Paris Hilton appears to have completed a rather impressive U-turn over a fly-on-the-wall documentary she once tried to have banned.

Poor Paris was concerned about the way she was portrayed in Paris, Not France, a three-year-old film directed by Adria Petty.

But, hey, that’s all in the past now - and Ms Hilton has bowled up to the Cannes Film Festival to help promote the documentary. However, one minute’s worth of material has now been cut from the footage. Hmmm… I wonder what was in it.

Apparently, it’ll be shown on MTV later in the year - but in the meantime, you can watch the trailer here:

George warns of 'gaythering storm'

Posted by Jane Murphy

 George Takei

The debate over gay marriage has been hitting the headlines in the US (again) this week - largely thanks to an exchange between über-gossip Perez Hilton and contestant Carrie Prejean at Sunday's Miss USA beauty pageant.

To cut a long story short, Perez - who was one of the judges - asked Carrie whether she felt all US states should legalise same-sex marriage. Carrie replied that she felt marriage should be "between a man and a woman".

Perez later called her a "dumb bitch" - and has since been doing the rounds of US chat shows to fight his cause. He's also been rallying the support of celebrities: so far, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears and Heidi Montag have all answered his plea and given gay marriage the thumbs-up. Good for them!

In the mean time, another bunch of US stars have got together to make a tongue-in-cheek video, poking fun at a recent National Organisation for Marriage ad, which warned about the "gathering storm" of gay marriage.

Called The Gaythering Storm (see what they did there?), it stars one of our all-time favourite celebrities George Takei, along with One Tree Hill's Sophia Bush, Clueless star Alicia Silverstone and him-out-of-the-Aero-ads Jason Lewis. Watch it here:

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, Lindsay isn't reading from a script: according to director Eric Appel, the under-fire star improvised during filming. "She threw in a bunch of fun, funny stuff," he revealed to Us magazine.

Prince Philip v Simon Cowell

Posted by Jane Murphy

 Prince Philip, Simon Cowell

News just in! It turns out Prince Philip isn't a big fan of Simon Cowell. (Well, I'd always had him down as more of a Louis Walsh man, anyway.)

Apparently, when the two came face to face in the line-up following 2007's Royal Variety Performance, the Duke of Edinburgh accused Simon of "sponging" off his acts, such as Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts.

Now, far be it from me to be anti-royalist, but don't you think it's a little rich for a member of the Royal Family to call somebody else a sponger?

Still, at least Philip recognised him. According to Simon, the Queen clearly didn't have a clue who he was.

Mind you, it'll take more than a right royal snub to diminish Mr Cowell's gargantuan ego: remember, this is the man who said he was "too busy" to have dinner with Barack Obama last week. Yes, really.

Here's Simon talking about Barack and the Royals on Wednesday's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno:

The premiere that rocked

Paul McCartney, Nancy Shevell

Last night saw the premiere of new Richard Curtis movie, The Boat That Rocked, in London's Leicester Square.

The occasion marked a rare public appearance by national treasure Sir Paul McCartney and his latest squeeze/rumoured fiancée Nancy Shevell. Now, is it just me or does Sir Paul look a tad uncomfortable here?

Mind you, Chris O'Dowd - who stars as a lovelorn DJ in the new movie - did his best to make Macca feel at home by disguising himself as Ringo Starr...

Chris O'Dowd

And newly single Geri Halliwell did her bit by successfully steering attention away from the former Beatle (and everyone else, for that matter)...

Geri Halliwell

Looking good, Ms H!

Meanwhile, there appeared to be a hitherto-unheard-of shortage of publicity-hungry reality TV stars on the red carpet - although an appearance by Big Brother presenter Davina McCall went some way towards redressing the balance...

Davina McCall

And one-time granddad-botherer Jonathan Ross brought his kids along - although it has to be said, they didn't look too happy about it...

Jonathan Ross and family

Cheer up, kids! Surely The Boat That Rocked can't be as soppy and sick-inducing as Love Actually. Er... can it?

Those head-shaving, crotch-flashing, paparazzo-snogging days are most definitely over, folks! It seems pop princess Britney Spears was on top form for the opening show of her comeback tour in New Orleans last night.

Dev and Freida conquer Hollywood

Newly anointed national treasure Dev Patel and his ridiculously gorgeous Slumdog Millionaire co-star Freida Pinto have been charming the Americans ahead of this weekend's Academy Awards.

The down-to-earth pair have just recorded an appearance on The Tyra Banks Show, which airs in the US later today.

During their chat with the supermodel-turned-presenter, Dev was asked about his recent encounter with Leonardo DiCaprio. "I went up to him, said 'Hello Leo', and shook his hand," he recalled. "I was so content with that, I went back and shook it again."

Dev also revealed that someone recently tried to sell him a bootleg copy of his own film. "I was having my hair cut, and this little lady came in selling pirate DVDs. 'Slumdog?' I was, like, 'No thanks, I've seen it.'"

Dev and Freida rounded off their appearance on Tyra's show by half-heartedly attempting to teach their host a few Bollywood moves. Watch what happened here:

Jennifer Hudson's Super Bowl comeback

Posted by Jane Murphy

Jennifer Hudson

Oooh - I've come over all emotional.

Jennifer Hudson gave a rousing rendition of the US national anthem at last night's Super Bowl - marking her first public appearance since the horrific murders of her mum, brother and nephew last October.

Apparently, Jen was inundated with texts from friends and supporters afterwards - including one from her Dreamgirls co-star Jamie Foxx. His message? "Amazing. It brought tears to my eyes."

I've a feeling it brought tears to everyone's eyes, Jamie...

Renée Zellweger is well red!

 Renée Zellweger

Having been roundly mocked for her "interesting" fashion choice at the Golden Globes, Renée Zellweger looked every inch the screen siren when she showed up for an appearance on Late Show With David Letterman last night.

The highlight of the actress's interview? A gushing description of how she rubbed shoulders with ordinary Muggles at Barack Obama's inauguration:

Oh, Renée - we're not worthy!

Any thoughts?

John Mayer takes a pop at Brad Pitt

Posted by Jane Murphy

Brad Pitt, John Mayer

Jennifer Aniston's current squeeze John Mayer has taken a sideways swipe at Brad Pitt and his Oscar-nominated movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in a new hilarious (or so he thinks) video.

The clip takes the form of a motivational pep talk - by John to John - in which he tells himself: "You're a man of strength, charisma, girth, honour... and influence.

"You know? Like that guy in the movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Bratt, the older you get, the younger you get - and right before you die a little tiny man-baby, you're gonna discover the ability to time travel into volcanoes. I never saw the film. I'm just guestimating that's how it ends."

Now, if you were Jennifer, would you want to laugh or cry after seeing that? Tell us here.

Stars pledge to help Barack Obama

Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore

Phew! Barack Obama can rest easy during his first night in the White House - safe in the knowledge that Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and a whole host of Hollywood stars have pledged to help him out by making a difference while he's in office.

In fact, they're so serious about their solemn pledge, they've even made a video to tell us all about it.

Some highlights? Demi says she's going to "free one million people from slavery in the next five years". Well, she's not doing much else nowadays, is she? (Only joking, Demi!)

And Eva Longoria pledges to "plant 500 trees this year". OK Eva, but we want to see you digging the holes, too - not just turning up in a limo to chuck the seeds in after someone else has done all the hard work.

Watch the full video here:

Beyoncé serenades Barack Obama

Posted by Jane Murphy

Beyoncé Knowles

Oooh - the emotion! Beyoncé rounded off last night's We Are One Barack Obama inaugural concert in Washington DC with a rousing rendition of 'God Bless America'. I've watched it three times now - and each time I've started to well up, despite the fact I'm not even slightly American.

Things to look out for in the video: Tom Hanks looking absolutely freezing; Bono looking a teeny bit starstruck; and George W Bush wandering across the back of the stage in a long brown raincoat and flat cap, like Eric Morecambe used to do when Ernie Wise had tried to bundle him off home so he wouldn't ruin the end-of-show song.*

* Er... I may just have imagined that last one.

Russell Brand's helpful hand

Posted by Jane Murphy

Russell Brand

Look! Russell Brand was spotted leaving his stand-up show at London's Soho Theatre with a helpful list of joke topics written on the back of his hand. And top of the pile? It's "Sachs" - obviously.

The other words are a little bit smudged, but I think they say "chicken crossing road", "dog with no nose" and "shark-infested custard".

Meanwhile, according to The Sun, Russell and some of his mates are set to release a novelty record - with the financial backing of Simon Cowell.

Russ's warm-up act Joby Harte penned 'The Chugga Chugga Song' to get the crowd on their feet before the comedian's gigs - and it's proved just the ticket.

Apparently, one of Mr Cowell's lackeys talent scouts picked it up after Russell and Joby gave it an airing on Radio 2 last year. Here it is in full:

Ricky Gervais congratulates Kate Winslet

Posted by Jane Murphy

Kate Winslet

Assuming you've been fully conscious for longer than five seconds today, you're probably already aware that fully paid-up national treasure Kate Winslet scooped up two (count 'em - two!) Golden Globes at last night's star-studded ceremony.

Here's Kate's gushing acceptance speech for the Best Actress gong. I think it's fair to say she was a tad surprised:

A couple of random observations...

Poor Angelina Jolie. First, Cameron Diaz stumbled over her name when announcing the list of nominees. And then Kate momentarily forgot about Ange when name-checking the other contenders in her speech.

And did you notice how Kate hugged co-star Leo DiCaprio before she embraced her husband Sam Mendes following the announcement? (Not that I'm suggesting there's anything untoward in that, you understand - but it just shows what a genuine friendship Kate and Leo have.)

And finally, remember the scene in Extras when Kate bemoans the fact she's never won an Oscar? Well, her old mate Ricky Gervais alluded to that when he congratulated her from the stage last night...

Like Ricky said... well done, Winslet!

Heather Mills takes a short cut

Posted by Jane Murphy

Heather Mills

Look! Heather Mills is sporting a new hairstyle - a bottle-blonde pixie crop that's led some celebrity-watchers to suggest she's "channelling Sharon Stone".

The one-time Beatle-botherer showed off her new look during an appearance on The Today Show in the US, during which she talked about her recent decision to donate truckloads of vegan food to deprived areas of the Bronx.

Watch the full interview here - and note how everyone whoops and cheers when the presenter welcomes Heather to the show. No wonder she prefers the US to the UK nowadays...

Tom Cruise's grief for Jett Travolta

Posted by Jane Murphy

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has described the recent death of John Travolta's teenage son Jett as "horrific" - which just about sums it up really, doesn't it?

A clearly devastated Tom was asked about his close friend's loss during an appearance on The View (which is basically the US version of Loose Women, but with even scarier presenters).

Sharon attacks!

Sharon Osbourne and Megan Hauserman

Remember all the fuss about Sharon Osbourne chucking a glass of water over a reality TV contestant last month?

Well, the show in question - Charm School - has just been screened in the US for the first time, so we can finally see the handbags-at-dawn incident for ourselves.

Just in case you have trouble working out what's going on amid all the whooping and squealing... Mrs O opted to soak former glamour model Megan Hauserman, after she'd made some less-than-flattering comments about Sharon's husband Ozzy.

And this being America, Megan later filed a police complaint for alleged assault - although no charges have yet been brought in connection with the incident.

Tom Cruise is an alien!

Posted by Jane Murphy

Tom Cruise

Er... Tom Cruise isn't really an alien. At least, I don't think he is. I was trying to wriggle my way on to David Letterman's next "Top 10 Things People Say About Tom Cruise On The Internet".

Tom - who recently wrapped his entire house in tin foil in a bid to fend off mischievous elves and pixies* - made a guest appearance on Letterman's US chat show last night, and was asked to read out the aforementioned Top 10.

"You see, there's this thing called the Internet where people have blogs and can say whatever they want," the host explained to Tom, who's in New York to record a cover version of David Van Day's 'Biff Baff Boff' song.*

Watch Tom read out the Top 10 here:

*OK, so I was lying - but there's no harm in trying, is there?

On didgeridoo... it's Nicole Kidman!

Posted by Jane Murphy

Nicole Kidman

Oh dear! Nicole Kidman has found herself in a spot of bother by attempting to play the didgeridoo during an appearance on a German chat show.

The problem? Aboriginal custom dictates that women are forbidden to play the instrument, which some indigenous groups believe could lead to infertility.

Earlier this year, complaints by Aboriginal academics led publisher HarperCollins to apologise for including a section on didgeridoo-playing in The Daring Book For Girls, and to remove it from later editions.

But to be fair to Nicole, she didn't look too keen on the idea of showcasing her didgeri-skills - but her host wouldn't take no for an answer. Oh, and meanwhile, Nic's Australia co-star Hugh Jackman half-heartedly mimicked one of the film's Aboriginal actors by standing on one leg.

Watch the slightly cringe-inducing saga unfold here:

Britney goes carol-singing

Posted by Jane Murphy

Britney Spears

Having Britney Spears withdrawal symptoms after all last week's excitement?

Apparently, she's just headed off to Japan on the next stage of her publicity drive, so there'll doubtless be more news very soon.

But before she left, Brit-Brit went carol-singing with US national treasure Ellen DeGeneres. And here's a taster of what happened...

Ah, it's nice to see Britney not miming for once, isn't it?

Posh's new video

Victoria Beckham

Fashion queen Victoria Beckham has produced a quirky little ad to promote her new frock collection for her label dVb.

It features lots of incredibly skinny, incredibly beautiful women playing a rubbish game of hide-and-seek in a super-posh mansion. Oh, and Mrs B herself even totters across the screen in one blink-and-you've-missed-it scene.

Intrigued? Watch the full video here:

Britney Spears

Well, as far as celebrity stories go, this week has certainly belonged to Britney Spears.

The pop princess's hit-and-miss comeback continued apace yesterday as she switched on the Christmas lights at the LA Live entertainment complex. (And, no, she wasn't miming!)

Meanwhile, the video for Britney's new single, 'Circus', was officially released - to much critical acclaim - on yesterday's edition of Entertainment Tonight:

Robert enters the Twilight zone

Posted by Jane Murphy

Robert Pattinson

There was mass hysteria in London's Leicester Square last night as Robert Pattinson showed up for the UK premiere of vampire movie Twilight.

Posh Bob - as I've just decided to nickname him - is already a superstar on the other side of the Atlantic, thanks to the mega-success of the blockbuster film.

And those in the know have tipped him to become "the next Orlando Bloom" (although the original Orlando may not feel the need for a doppelganger just yet).

Still, having watched him being interviewed a couple of times over the past 12 hours, I have to say Posh Bob doesn't seem totally comfortable with his star status.

But don't take my word for it: have a look at this interview with Extra's Terri Seymour and decide for yourselves...

Take that, Britney!

Posted by Jane Murphy

Britney Spears, Gary Barlow

I can't help feeling a bit sorry for Britney Spears at the moment.

The pop princess mimed her way through yet another performance of 'Womanizer' and her latest single 'Circus' on yesterday's Good Morning America.

And although her "people" obviously know how to put on a show - jugglers, unicyclists, fire-eaters! - at the centre of it all there's a woman who's clearly just going through the motions. Just look at her half-hearted body language:

What's more, Britney is still being roundly slammed for miming on Saturday's X Factor - and has even fallen prey to a tongue-lashing from professional nice guys, Take That.

"I don't see the point in Britney any more," Gary Barlow tells the Daily Mirror. "She was rubbish on the show. I think she's more famous now than she deserves to be. Why come on a show like that and mime?"

Gary's bandmate Howard Donald adds: "All the contestants on The X Factor are so talented and were able to sing and dance live. So why wasn't Britney able to do it? It's the whole point of the show and her miming looked stupid. I just don't think she understood the show. She was probably made to do it."

So is Britney trying to do too much too soon following her very public breakdown? Or should she carry on regardless and take the criticism with a pinch of salt? Tell us what you think.

Britney and Posh: one out, one in...

Posted by Jane Murphy

Britney Spears

First, the bad news... After her whistle-stop tour of Europe - and not-quite-as-triumphant-as-it-could-have-been performance on The X Factor - Britney Spears has jetted back to the US.

But before she headed home, the pop princess - who turns 27 tomorrow - did stop off at London's G-A-Y, where she indulged in a "meet and greet" with a handful of fans in the club's VIP area.

And they must have known she was coming because they baked a cake:

As you can see, the club was packed to the rafters - partly because false rumours had been circulating that Britters would perform on stage. But she obviously wanted to give her voice a rest after The X Factor (ahem!).

Anyway, now for the good news... Britney may have flown home but the paparazzi won't be left twiddling their thumbs for very long. The reason? Victoria Beckham's back in the UK:
