Who has the most annoying celebrity voice?
Posted by Jane Murphy
It’s pointless poll time again, folks.
The latest? A survey of more than 1,500 people by Magic 105.4 radio station found that seasoned broadcaster Janet Street-Porter has the most annoying celebrity voice in the UK.
(Incidentally, have you noticed how it’s absolutely impossible to say “Janet Street-Porter” out loud without doing an impression of her?)
Still, JSP only just made it to the top of the list: publicity-shy glamour girl Katie Price’s dulcet tones came a close second.
Meanwhile, national-treasure-in-waiting Alan Carr was voted people’s top choice to make announcements on the London Underground.
Alan’s response (via Twitter, of course)? “Wonderful. Am so flattered and surprised. Who would want to hear my voice when they’re six feet under?
“I’ve even been practising ‘Mind the gap’, ‘Doors are closing’ and my favourite phrase of the underground, ‘Turn left outside for the replacement bus service’.”
Fellow Twitter king Stephen Fry was voted the celebrity with the No.1 iconic voice, narrowly beating Sean Connery.
So which celebrity voices do you most love - and hate - to hear? Tell us here.

The best voice is the late Sir Lawrence Olivier, no one can match that rich, soft, gentle, yet authoratative voice.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned Dan Cruickshank, who presents Historical and Architechtural programmes. His voice is like gas escaping through a small hole in a canister, and although low, drills into you. Just like Capt Janeway in Star Trek Voyager. Both of them, you just feel like knocking them out.
Trouble is, I actually like the programmes.

On a local level, the woman's voice heard on the travelator at Asda in Folkestone, when she says (in a sing-song voice) be-prepared-to-push-your-trolley-off-the-end-of-the-travelator. I want to push her off the top of the building!

This dropping of "t's" in the middle of a word. It drives me mad! As for voices, well Ray Winston gets my vote for the most annoying. When he did that ad for Optivita missing the second t out!!!! And his add for VW Vaaan. It's not just cockney, the actors in northern soaps do it too.
Posted by: LINDA | 23 October 2009 at 11:38
