What Katie did yesterday

So what would you do if you’d just been dropped from a breast cancer charity campaign, a blast-from-the-past ex-partner had publicly branded you “infuriating”, and you’d been accused of calling your former husband at unsociable hours and warbling Whitney Houston songs into his voicemail?

I think there’s only one answer, isn’t there? You would, of course, go to a theme park with boxer Amir Khan…

Yep, that’s right: under-fire reality TV star Katie Price spent much of yesterday riding Thorpe Park’s rollercoasters with Amir - and unfortunately suffered for her efforts…

So what’s it all about? Well, Katie and Amir were filming a new game show, Scream If You Know The Answer, presented by Duncan James. The cutting-edge programme sees celebrities team up with members of the public to hog theme park rides and compete for £5,000 prize money.

The “brains” behind the show, UKTV’s Lisa Perrin, says: “The thing I really love about Scream is that our celebrities get to ride too, so we can watch them and the contestants being pushed and pulled here, there and everywhere by huge G forces.”

Apparently they’ve got Heather Mills lined up as a future guest, too. Marvellous!

Jenny’s quick-change frock shock!

Former Atomic Kitten Jenny Frost looked every inch the glamour-puss in a long red gown at last night’s Hair Magazine Awards in Barnet central London.

But look! By the end of the evening, the Snog Marry Avoid presenter had clearly tired of skimming the floor with her frock - so she hoisted it up, tucked it into her belt and threw a black jacket over the top…

Meanwhile, Kimberly Wyatt - high-profile member of yet another feline-tastic girl-band Pussycat Dolls - seemed particularly keen to show off her new neck stud to the paparazzi…

If you look closely, you should just about make it out above her common-or-garden neck tattoo.

And finally, actress/presenter Donna Air practically skipped out of the venue, while helpfully hitching up her dress to afford photographers a better view of her legs…

However, that sniffy lot at the Daily Mail have described Donna’s frock as a “well-fitted, if slightly drab, beige number”. Hmmm… I wish I could look as “drab” as Donna - don’t you?

What does Cheryl Cole smell like?

Queen of Everything Cheryl Cole could be set to follow in the illustrious footsteps of Victoria Beckham, Katie Price, Kate Moss and… er… Kerry Katona by launching her own signature scent.

“I would love to have my own beauty products,” Cheryl tells Hello! magazine. “I think the most special thing you could have is your own custom-made personal perfume. It must be amazing to have your own unique smell.”

Inside (and outside) the Inside Soap Awards

It’s that time of year again, folks! Yep, for the next few weeks, we can expect publicity-hungry Strictly Come Dancing stars to be turning up at every red carpet event in the land, no matter how tenuous their link to it.

Above, for example, we have struggling SCD contestant Rav Wilding, posing with Coronation Street’s Michelle Keegan at last night’s Inside Soap Awards.

The reason? Rav was there to present Michelle with the coveted gong for Sexiest Female.

Still, it could have been worse. EastEnders’ Lacey Turner was handed the Best Actress award by the very-off-radar Neil ‘not a real doctor’ Fox…

That’s a lovely fixed smile, Lacey!

Meanwhile, former EastEnder Kara Tointon was joined by her boyfriend, current King of the Jungle Joe Swash, as she posed proudly with her Best Dressed award…

Hmmm… no offence to the lovely Kara, but shouldn‘t that award have gone to the wardrobe department? After all, it’s not as if the actors have any say over what they wear on set - otherwise they’d all be swanning round in designer clobber…

Anyway, back to last night’s dapper double acts - and here’s yet another EastEnder, Larry Lamb, with his Best Bad Boy award and son George…

I still much prefer him in Gavin & Stacey - don’t you?

And finally, here’s a touching little scene to send you on your merry way. It’s Casualty stars Ben Turner and Amy Manson (who also played Lizzie Siddall in the aptly named Desperate Romantics, fact fans) getting into the spirit of things outside the venue…

Note how Ben adopts the classic “one hand in your pocket, the other holding your fag” pose during this intimate exchange. Classy!

Pete hits back at Dwight

Following Dwight Yorke’s less-than-complimentary words about Saint Peter Andre of Brighton and Hove at the weekend, Team Pete have hit back with a couple of choice comments.

Former footballer Dwight - who, lest we forget, is the biological father of Katie Price’s son Harvey - brands Pete a “muppet” in his new autobiography, and admits he wanted to “grab him round the neck and throttle him” when he talked about adopting Harvey.

“I’m sorry Dwight hates me but he could have been there much more for Harvey,“ Pete reportedly told a “friend”, who swiftly told The Sun. “I have been that boy’s dad for more than three years. And he knows it.

“I don’t hate Dwight and I didn’t realise he felt that way about me. But I have been a real father to Harvey and he calls me ‘Daddy’, so I guess that sticks in Dwight’s throat.”

Meanwhile, Katie’s “people” have responded to Dwight’s “jilted father” act by telling the press: “Harvey has a full-time nanny and, as part of the terms of employment, she is allowed to take Harvey up to visit Dwight whenever he wants. She says Dwight has not made an attempt in the past 12 months to use this clause.”

Frankly, I don’t know why Peter and Katie even bother to react to anything Dwight says - but I guess neither of them are accustomed to keeping their mouths shut, are they?

Chantelle tops ‘quick to bed’ poll

As ever, I’ve been trawling the depths of the UK news agenda to unearth the results of recent pointless polls.

The latest? Men aged between 18 and 28 believe that women called Chantelle are most likely to have sex on a first date, according to exhaustive research by OnePoll.

And… er… yes, that’s why I’ve illustrated this story with a picture of reality TV princess Chantelle Houghton - although, I hasten to add, there’s no suggestion the men had her in mind when they answered the question.

The next five names on the list? Stacey, Kelly, Chelsea, Tanya and Debs. (Aren’t they all in EastEnders?)

Meanwhile, women in the same age group felt that men called Dave were most likely to try their luck on a first date - with Lees, Steves, Darrens and Andys all keen to “come back for coffee“, too.

Attempting to put some kind of analytical spin on the results, a OnePoll spokesman - who, incidentally, didn’t give his name - told the press: “It’s intriguing how different names have different connotations these days.

“I’m sure many of the blokes we polled haven’t managed to get someone called Chantelle into bed - but they seem to like their chances. And it might be a productive week for potential bed-hoppers called Dave, Lee and Steve.”

What Katie did at the weekend

Phew! I was encouraged to see that Katie Price and Alex Reid took a break from hanging out at cage-fighting events this weekend - and took the kids to the cinema instead.

The happy couple were joined by Katie’s three children, Harvey, Junior and Princess Tiaamii - plus Alex’s nephew - at the London premiere of Hero of the Rails, the new Thomas the Tank Engine movie.

However, the latest round of Katie-bashing continued unabated - with ex-partner and Harvey’s natural father Dwight Yorke branding her “infuriating” in a no-holds-barred excerpt from his autobiography, published in yesterday’s News of the World.

According to Dwight, Katie “made it difficult” for him to form a bond with Harvey. Ah well, I’m sure he can still make it up to him if he sets his mind to it. Perhaps he’d like to start by putting his tabloid fee into a trust fund for Harvey. No?

Another baby for Kerry?

The latest news on Kerry Katona? Apparently, the mum-of-four is trying for another baby because she’s convinced it will help get her life back on track following her recent cocaine scandal.

The “troubled star” (that’s now her official title) was spotted eyeing up baby clothes in Mothercare while patting her stomach during a weekend shopping trip in Wilmslow. And - what d’you know? - the paparazzi were there to record her every move. What a coincidence!

“She decided to have another baby just a few weeks after she was filmed doing cocaine,” one of Kerry’s many blabber-mouth “friends” told The People. “Husband Mark Croft said no at first, but he’s come round.”

Now, I suspect like many people, I only need to read a couple of sentences about Kerry and Mark before I start morphing into Jeremy Kyle and feel a desperate urge to shout out state-the-obvious, judgemental comments until my skin turns completely purple and my eyes bulge out of my face.

But having taken a deep breath then smashed my head against the wall several times instead, I’ll simply say: all things considered, I don’t think Kerry and Mark should be trying for another baby at this particular juncture.

Are you ready for Friends: The Movie?

Prepare yourselves for 101 “Friends Reunited” headlines, folks!

Following the success of the Sex and the City movie, Hollywood hotshots have apparently given the go-ahead for a big-screen version of Friends.

How do we know? Well, the nice people at the News of the World say so. And how do they know? Erm… well… the bloke who played Central Perk cappuccino king Gunther told them.

“Friends: The Movie is definitely on,” actor James Michael Tyler revealed. “I still keep in touch with a lot of the cast and they say they’re really keen.”

Meanwhile, a “top movie source” told the tabloid: “The cast haven’t set the world alight since the show finished. But this film could relight some of their flagging careers in a big way.

“But everyone knew the story had to be right and well written. Getting the creators on board was a massive step forward for the project.”

So I wonder what the storyline is. Presumably Ross (David Schwimmer) will split up with Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) but then they’ll get back together in the film’s emotional climax. But what about the others?

Personally, I think they should try a Sex and the City/Friends mash-up, in which Phoebe has a fling with Mr Big, Joey and Chandler indulge in an ill-thought-out ménage à trois with Samantha, and Rachel and Carrie go on the mother of all shopping sprees.

Xtina’s got the power!

I am woman - hear me roar!

Yesterday saw the inaugural scary-sounding Variety Power of Women luncheon (ie, “lunch” with three extra letters) at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Los Angeles.

And, as you can see, a couple of the high-profile guests took the opportunity to try out some new poses on the red carpet. Christina Aguilera went for the tricky-to-pull-off one-legged “pretty flamingo”…

You have to get it just right - otherwise it can look like you’ve just stood in dog poo.

Meanwhile, 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord went for the Marilyn-esque kiss-blowing classic…

However, Anne Hathaway stuck with the common-or-garden “Grecian urn”…

Other guests included Sigourney Weaver, Christina Applegate, Jamie Lee Curtis and Paula Abdul - plus, rather bizarrely seeing as he’s a man, Home and Away star Ryan Kwanten. Ah well, it’s nice to have a token fella hanging around the place, isn’t it?

Morris dancing in shock celebrity comeback!

You read it here first, folks! Morris dancing is set for a massive revival in popularity across the land, following a high-profile endorsement from respected actress and national treasure Emma Thompson.

Emma dressed up in full morris regalia when she turned up to support husband Greg Wise at yesterday’s London premiere of his new movie, Morris: A Life With Bells On (see what they did there?).

Apparently, it’s a “quintessentially English” film - which is presumably why Emma and Greg struck some more quintessentially English poses, such as hanging out on a couple of straw bales next to a milk churn…

Well, we all do it, don’t we? I’m actually compiling this blog from the top of a haystack right now.

Meanwhile, Greg’s co-stars Harriet Walter and Jason Isaacs posed nicely with Ye Olde English version of The Stig from Top Gear…

At least, I think that’s who he was.

Big Brother stars’ bum deal

Every now and then, when the weight of the world is on my shoulders and life is getting me down, I cheer myself up by searching through the latest paparazzi snaps for pictures of Big Brother 9’s Mario Marconi and Lisa Appleton - then marvel at their dress sense.

So imagine my disappointment when I uncovered the above snap - which shows the highly sought-after celebrity couple cutting the ribbon at the grand opening of the new Storm store in Liverpool earlier in the week. They’re dressed relatively normally, aren’t they? For them, I mean.

But all is not lost! I then found this picture of Lisa eyeing up the store's impressive bag display - and noticed she’d forgotten one vital garment in her getting-dressed regime.

Don’t you just hate it when that happens?

Oooh - it’s all happening! Rihanna’s dyed (most of) her hair blonde.

The trend-setting singer’s new look turned a few heads when she wandered through New York‘s JFK airport yesterday afternoon.

Oh, and that T-shirt she’s wearing is emblazoned with lyrics from ‘Heal the World’. Some examples? “There are people dying”, “Make a better world” and “For you and for me”. Ah, it’s what Michael Jackson would have wanted…

The One with Chantelle and the DVDs

Blimey - has Jennifer Aniston done something different with her hair?

Oh no, I tell a lie. It’s actually a glammed-up Chantelle Houghton outside the star-studded launch party for the new temporary Central Perk coffee shop in London’s Soho last night.

Apparently, the venue is a sensitive recreation of the coffee shop in Friends - complete with rare memorabilia from the show. How exciting! No?

Anyway, everyone who turned up to last night’s cappuccino-fest was given a Friends box set to take home - an absolute godsend on those rare occasions when Channel 4 is showing Hollyoaks or horse-racing instead.

Chantelle was so chuffed, she took two of them home…

And Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh sneaked off with just one…

But Peaches Geldof kept her hands firmly in her pockets and went home to watch Skins instead…

Victoria slams the skinny-bashers

Yes, I know this blog has been just a teeny-weeny bit obsessed with Victoria Beckham this week - but if she will keep wearing different frocks and issuing pithy soundbites, what am I supposed to do?

The latest? After her whistle-stop visit to London Fashion Week, Victoria flew “home” to Los Angeles yesterday evening - sporting a Dolce & Gabbana spider-web dress, fact fans.

But before she left, Mrs B did take time to hit out at rumours she’s been starving herself in order to stay super-skinny. 

“I am fine - happy and healthy,” Posh told the Daily Mirror. “It’s irresponsible when people obsess about my shape and size. I appreciate there are young girls and women who look to me as a role model, and it’s simply untrue to say I don’t eat and I am unhealthy.

“I have a healthy diet, a healthy lifestyle and plenty of energy to run after my three energetic boys and travel the world managing my fashion business.”

Hmmm… I reckon she does have a point about it being irresponsible to obsess over celebrities’ body shapes.

Personally, I try not to take any notice - although on those rare occasions when somebody‘s bones are practically sticking out and they look ready to snap in two, it‘s hard not to feel a tad concerned.

Did Emma outshine Posh?

There was much excitement at yesterday’s Burberry catwalk show at London Fashion Week - particularly when Victoria Beckham bowled up in a cute flared black dress from her own collection.

But then 19-year-old Harry Potter star Emma Watson arrived, wearing this gold Burberry minidress…

“Emma got the look just right,” one knowledgeable fashionista told the Daily Mail. “It would have been a big mistake to try an OTT outfit. Her dress wowed the crowds but looked sophisticated at the same time.”

Now, I’m no fashion expert - but if Emma’s dress isn’t just a teeny-weeny bit OTT, I really don’t know what is.

Anyway, there were plenty more glammed-up stars at the show - including Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto, who allowed herself to become disentangled from boyfriend Dev Patel for just long enough to pose for this photograph…

Other guests included Gwyneth Paltrow, Agyness Deyn, Liv Tyler and - of course - Business Secretary Peter Mandelson. Well, no fashion gathering would be complete without him, would it?

Peter Andre: ‘I feel like Cheryl Cole’

Saint Peter Andre of Brighton and Hove has taken time out from nabbing guest spots on every TV show in the land to write his weekly column for New magazine.

So what’s… er… new, Pete? “It’s funny because I remember Cheryl Cole saying last year that she’d had the best and worst year of her life, what with Ashley allegedly cheating on her and her huge success on The X Factor, and I feel a bit like that at the moment,” ponders the busy-busy pop star.

“These past few months have been horrific on a personal level - but on a professional level, I’ve honestly never been happier,” he continues. “I think personal heartbreak spurs you on to do well because you need to focus on other things.”

Ah well, every cloud has a silver lining… So is Pete really the new Cheryl? Will the trauma of his break-up with Katie Price continue to spur him on to bigger and better things? Or are his super-extended 15 minutes of fame nearly up? Tell us what you think.

Ricky in ‘hardly Posh Spice’ shocker!

Uh-oh! Has Ricky Gervais gone all “Hollywood” on us?

The star was looking relatively svelte at the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie, The Invention of Lying, on Tuesday night - fuelling rumours that he’s embarked on a faddy new diet to keep in shape like his fellow A-listers.

“I’ve been working out more because I’ve got a gym in my house,” Ricky admitted. “I’ve lost about an inch. But I’m still a 36-inch waist so I’m hardly Posh Spice. I‘ve had pizza two days running in my hotel.”

However, co-star Rob Lowe insists Ricky has changed since making it big in Tinseltown.

“It’s unbelievable what has happened - he’s completely gone Hollywood,” Rob told reporters. “I know I can count on my brothers and sisters in the UK press to hammer him for going Hollywood.”

Brothers and Sisters? Don’t you just love the way Rob manages to weave a plug for his TV show into a seemingly innocuous quote?

Anyway, as you can see from our pictures, Ricky and Rob were joined at the premiere by co-star Jennifer Garner (above). Oh, and Ricky’s old mate from Extras, Ashley Jensen, was there, too…

Hmmm… it but it looks like she’s piled on a few pounds recently, doesn’t it? Sorry - what’s that? Pregnant? Well I never!

What next for Sugababes and Keisha?

So, as you’ve doubtless already heard by now, Keisha Buchanan - the final Sugababes founding member - has officially left the band and been swiftly replaced by Jade Ewen (aka Her-out-of-Eurovision).

Why? Well, nobody really seems to know. Keisha’s posted on Twitter to say it wasn’t her choice to leave - but she’s staying with record company Island to pursue a solo career.

Oh, and she has “nothing but positive things to say” about her former band colleagues Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah. Righto, love - we believe you.

So is Keisha headed for solo superstardom - or can we expect to see her “doing a Mutya” on the next series of Celebrity Big Brother? How will Jade fare alongside Heidi and Amelle? And should they consider changing the band name, seeing as none of them are original Sugababes?

Frankly, London Fashion Week has already thrown up so many eye-popping pics, I feel in desperate need of a lie-down. But before I retire to my boudoir, I thought I’d just show you a selection of last night’s snaps.

At the top of this blog, we have the ever-reliable Victoria Beckham, who wore one of her own designs - an off-the-shoulder minidress with tie-dye effect - teamed with a pair of ridiculously high blue shoes.

The event? A private dinner at Le Caprice, also attended by a smattering of supermodels, designers and the cast of Ugly Betty people who work at Vogue.

However, at least one supermodel chose to eschew the hoity-toity dinner and go clubbing instead. Raven-haired Agyness Deyn hit the Groucho club and Bungalow 8 after the House of Holland show...

…which was no mean feat (or should that be feet?) in these shoes… 

Meanwhile, translucent Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts has been showing up here, there and everywhere in a fine selection of outfits - not least this rather daring see-through top and black trousers combo, which she wore to the 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty Gala at the National History Museum…

So does this mean her character, sex-crazed PR princess Samantha Jones, is finally going to settle down and get married? Or is this just Kim’s way of amusing herself between takes? Ah well, it’s just eight months until the movie hits cinemas - then all will be revealed…

Meanwhile, that tiresome old "on-set feud" rumour has reared its ugly head again. According to a report in Star magazine, Kim and co-star Sarah Jessica Parker dislike each other so much, they refuse to talk to one another when they‘re not filming.

“While the cast is all smiles on the outside, the level of dislike on the inside is unbelievable,” a grumpy insider told the magazine. “Nobody is having a good time on this shoot.”

Puh! I refuse to believe such rumours. After all, how could anyone not have a good time when they’re being paid megabucks to totter round in high heels and designer clothes all the time?

Heavens to Betsy - how many glitzy premieres does one film need?

Brad Pitt was at the San Sebastian Film Festival at the weekend for yet another star-studded screening of his new(ish) movie Inglourious Basterds.

However, the actor’s clearly becoming a little more laid-back in his choice of red carpet outfits - because he showed up to the event in a pair of monogrammed slippers.

Word is he was wearing them on the wrong feet: apparently, they used to belong to balloon-lipped reality TV star Pete Burns.

Jordan’s new man to stick around for 2010

Look! It’s everyone’s favourite headline-hogging cage fighter Alex Reid, sporting a pretty pink jumper and looking mighty pleased with himself on Saturday night.

The reason? He’d just won a high-profile fight at east London’s The Troxy, in front of a highly charged crowd that - naturally - included his doting girlfriend Katie Price.

(Incidentally, Katie was so chuffed with Alex’s victory, she stripped to her undies in full view of everyone then put on a sequined minidress with “The Champ” written on it. Ah, that’s nice, isn’t it?)

Anyway, want to see more of Alex? You’re in luck! Apparently, he’s eyeing up a deal to produce his own glossy calendar. Yep, the plaster-faced heart-throb could be staring down from your kitchen or office wall for the whole of 2010. Imagine!

Just one thing, though… Do you think anyone will remember who he is by this time next year?

Posh does airport chic (again)

Only last week, po-faced fashionista Victoria Beckham was waxing lyrical about how important it is to “look nice” when swanning through airports.

And just to prove the point (apparently), here she is hot-footing it into the departures lounge in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon.

However, I can’t help noticing that this rock-chick-meets-personal-trainer look is something of a departure from Mrs B’s usual airport style. And that’s possibly the smallest bag she’s ever carried in her life.

Who’s hanging out at the Mayfair Hotel?

London’s super-swanky Mayfair Hotel is fast becoming the place to hang out if you’re a celebrity-baiting paparazzo. Or a paparazzi-baiting celebrity. Or just someone who likes to rub shoulders with celebrities and the paparazzi.

Last night’s guests included translucent Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts and her slightly brighter bandmate Kimberley Walsh - closely followed by another girl band legend, Mel B…

Mel seemed rather engrossed in reading a text on her BlackBerry - which may or may not have been a response to her earlier teasing Tweet, in which she’d hinted that the Spice Girls may reunite for another stadium tour. (Heaven help us!)

But it wasn’t all about girl bands: off-radar socialite Lady Victoria Hervey also dropped by in an eye-catching gold dress...

Coleen blasts Jordan over rape claim

Loose Women presenter Coleen Nolan has hit out at Katie Price over the rape claim that‘s been hogging the headlines all week.

Writing in her column for the Daily Mirror, Coleen rants: “Immediately after saying her rapist was a ‘top celebrity’, Jordan/Katie or whatever her name is these days said she didn’t want to talk about it any more.

“Well too late, love. You should have thought about what you were and weren’t prepared to talk about before opening your big mouth.

“If she has no intention of ever naming her attacker or going to the police, there was absolutely no point in revealing he is a celebrity. I mean, is it somehow ‘better’ to have been raped by a celebrity?”

Coleen adds that the media circus surrounding Katie’s claims could have serious repercussions for other rape victims. She continues: “For years the police and counselling groups have worked their socks off to ensure women who make claims of rape are treated seriously.

“Now Jordan’s story has, for millions of people, turned the whole subject back into a case of ‘Women just say these things for attention’ or even worse, ‘Most of ‘em are just asking for it’.”

Latest news is that Katie has been visited by police - but she’s so far refused to give a full statement. Hmmm… it’s all a bit of a mess, isn’t it?

Well, Jennifer Lopez answered that question yesterday afternoon - by squeezing herself into a figure-hugging nude sheath dress from her old mate Victoria Beckham’s new Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

Meanwhile, husband Marc Anthony opted for a slightly less show-stopping ensemble, which fashionistas are calling the “trainee geography teacher”.

Topics up for discussion during the meeting? Educational reform in the Latino community - and whether or not Posh’s design made J.Lo’s bum look big.

David tops Cheryl in kids’ poll

Soon-to-depart Doctor Who star David Tennant could be a shoo-in for a new career once he leaves the Tardis behind for good. The actor has just topped a YouGov poll of 510 primary schoolchildren to find their dream head teacher.

Dapper Dave won an impressive 26% of votes - beating off stiff competition from seasoned poll-topper Cheryl Cole, Leader of the Free World Barack Obama and Harry Potter author JK Rowling.

Asked for the reasons behind their choices, almost half of the children polled said they mainly wanted their school head to be fun.

Good call, kids! Frankly, I think that’s where head teachers have been going wrong all these years. Who wants some stuffy old codger who tells you off for running in the corridor or farting in assembly? It’s time every head across the land was issued with a sonic screwdriver and told to liven things up a bit.

Agy’s new ‘do bowls everyone over!

You read it here first, folks! Agyness Deyn is morphing into Sharleen Spiteri before our very eyes.

Everyone’s favourite chip-shop-assistant-turned-supermodel sported a new Sharleen-style raven black hairdo at the New York premiere of Coco Before Chanel on Tuesday night.

Colour aside, however, I’m a little bit concerned about the shape of Agy’s ‘do. According to those in the know, this heralds the return of the “pudding bowl” haircut - which, as its name suggests, is traditionally achieved by sticking a bowl on your head then hacking round it with a pair of blunt scissors.

It might suit Agy - but what about the rest of us? Tell us what you think.

Kanye West: America’s biggest jackass?

Heavens to Betsy - can you believe all the fuss about Kanye West’s misbehaviour at Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards?

To recap, 19-year-old country singer Taylor Swift was seconds into her acceptance speech for the Best Female Video gong - when Kanye jumped on stage, grabbed the microphone and declared that Beyoncé’s video was “one of the best of all time”.

Naturally, he received a round of boos for his efforts - and promptly became the topic of many angry celebrity Tweets. An example? Pink declared him the “biggest piece of s*** on Earth”. Ouch! Oh, and rumour has it that Barack Obama called him a “jackass”, which seems to sum up the situation quite succinctly.

But fast-forward 24 hours, and an apparently repentant Kanye appeared on Jay Leno’s late-night talk show to admit he'd been rude and now deeply regretted his actions:

Now, I have to admit I did start to feel a bit sorry for him halfway through that interview. After all, we’ve all done daft things after a few drinks then regretted it the following morning, haven’t we? It’s just that most of us don’t do it in front of 27 million TV viewers.

But then Taylor popped up on yesterday’s The View and revealed that Kanye hadn’t yet apologised to her in person.

“He hasn’t personally reached out or anything - but if he wanted to say hi, I would,” she insisted. “I’m not going to say that I wasn’t riled by it. I had to perform live five minutes later so I had to get myself back to the place where I could perform.”

Well - surprise, surprise - shortly after this on-screen revelation, Kanye did call Taylor to apologise. “He was very sincere in his apology, and I accepted that apology,” Taylor later told ABC News Radio. And asked if “going down the road, everything will be alright between you guys”, Taylor replied: “Yeah, definitely.”

Hmmm… perhaps they’ll get together to make a charity record and accompanying video now. Although, of course, Beyoncé would do it so much better…

Who’s Jennifer cuddling now?

Frankly, I’m losing track of the number of romantic movies with notable leading men that Jennifer Aniston has notched up over the past year or so.

Last night saw the Los Angeles premiere of Love Happens, in which Jen stars alongside Aaron Eckhart (aka Harvey-Dent-out-of-The-Dark-Knight). The story? Aaron plays a heartbroken widower who becomes a self-help guru; Jen plays a single florist who shows up to one of his seminars. Gosh - I wonder what happens…

Anyway, the pair scrubbed up very nicely for their red carpet photo call - with Jen eschewing her usual LBD in favour of a dazzling silver Valentino Haute Couture minidress.

Oh, and according to some very excitable paparazzi, the couple exchanged “some overly friendly hugs”.

What’s more, Aaron was very complimentary about his former co-star‘s professional skills. “Jen’s such a better actor than I am,” he told reporters. “She’s so effortless all the time. I really get jealous of people like Jen because they just seem to do it.”

Move over, Gerard Butler! There’s a new Aniston relationship rumour in town…

Which one’s the waxwork?

Blimey - it’s impossible to tell them apart, isn’t it?

Those wax-tastic people at Madame Tussauds have just unveiled a new and improved model of Kate Moss as part of a special London Fashion Week display. And just in case your eyesight isn’t quite what it used to be, I should point out that the waxwork is the one on the left in our picture.

However, the new Kate has come in for some criticism from those laugh-a-minute funsters at the Daily Mail, who sneer: “With flawless skin and a youthful complexion, the figure looks a far cry from the spotty face and wrinkles the model has been pictured sporting lately”.

Either way, it looks like the Madame Tussauds make-up team were still putting the finishing touches to the model yesterday…

But that’s not all, folks! As you can see, the display also includes an on-loan waxwork of US supermodel Tyra Banks.

“Tyra’s guest appearance ups the glam factor even more, and visitors will be able to imagine they are working the catwalk themselves when they meet the Madame Tussauds stylist and can get up close and pose alongside two of the world’s most famous models,” gushes PR manager Liz Edwards.

Hmmm… I think I’d prefer to have my picture taken next to a waxwork of Danny DeVito. How about you?

Stars pay tribute to Patrick Swayze

Tributes have started to flood in for Hollywood heart-throb Patrick Swayze, who died yesterday following a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Demi Moore, who co-starred with the actor in Ghost, said: “Patrick, you are loved by so many and your light will forever shine in all of our lives. In the words of Sam to Molly [their characters in the movie]: ‘It’s amazing, Molly. The love inside, you take it with you. I will miss you.’”

Another Ghost co-star Whoopi Goldberg told the press: “Patrick was a really good man, a funny man and one to whom I owe much that I can’t ever repay. I believe in Ghost’s message, so he’ll always be near.”

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a statement saying: “Patrick Swayze was a talented and passionate artist who struck a memorable chord with audiences throughout the world. He played a wide range of characters… and his celebrated performances made the hard work of acting look effortless - which I know from experience isn’t easy.”

Finally, the actor’s Dirty Dancing co-star Jennifer Grey said: “Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace. Gorgeous and strong, he was a real cowboy with a tender heart… When I think of him, I think of being in his arms when we were kids - dancing, practising the lift in the freezing lake, having a blast doing this tiny little movie we thought no one would ever see.”

Meanwhile, fans have started to lay flowers next to the actor’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame…

Victoria does The View

Poor Victoria Beckham could barely get a word in edgeways when she tottered in for a guest appearance on The View yesterday afternoon. (Not familiar with The View? It’s the US version of Loose Women - with added legs.)

Topics up for discussion: Victoria’s shoes, Victoria’s clothes, Victoria’s perfume, Victoria’s husband… You get the picture?

Any amazing revelations? Well, no - not really. But Mrs B did get to explain why she’s always pictured swanning through airport lounges in tight-fitting designer clobber.

“I think it’s the way I was brought up,” she revealed. “When you travel, you always look nice. But I always have a tracksuit or my pyjamas in my bag, so I go into the toilet and put on something comfortable.” Hmmm… it all sounds like an unnecessary faff to me - but each to their own.

Just in! Pete’s got an album out

You’ll never guess what! Publicity-shy pop star Peter Andre has just launched a new album. You’d think he’d have mentioned something about it before now, wouldn’t you?

Pete was joined at the launch party for Revelation by his ever-faithful manager Claire Powell (snazzy T-shirt, Claire!)…

…and another of Claire’s clients, glamour-model-turned-reality-star Nicola McLean with her husband, footballer Tommy Williams…

And talking of glamour-models-turned-reality-stars, latest rumours suggest that Katie Price begged Pete to take her back in drunken texts sent just four days before their divorce.

According to The Sun, the first one read: “I love you”. The second said: “I want you back”. And the third asked: “Why won’t you talk to me? We can still make things work.”

However, Pete is adamant that he’ll never get back together with Katie. “He had to stop himself replying,” a mysterious “pal” told the tabloid. “He wanted to tell her she should have realised all of that when they were still a family. She is just beginning to understand everything that she threw away.”

Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did reunite in a few months’ time. What do you think?

Madonna pays tribute to Jacko

Madonna made a moving, heartfelt speech about Michael Jackson at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards in New York, telling the audience that everyone, including her, had been guilty of “abandoning” the dearly departed star.

In a rare public show of emotion, the Queen of Pop talked fondly of the time she spent with Jacko, and empathised with his battle against a "witch hunt" of public attention "so loud you're convinced your voice can never be heard".

Her Madgesty added that unlike the King of Pop, she had a childhood and "was allowed to make mistakes and find my own way in the world without being in the spotlight".

"We had allowed this magnificent creature who once set the world on fire to somehow slip through the cracks,” she added.

Who wore it well at the VMAs?

You’ll doubtless be pleased to see that the stars didn’t disappoint in the eye-popping fashion stakes at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.

Take Katy Perry, for example. At first glance, her metallic minidress looks pretty run-of-the-mill by celebrity standards. But look again and you’ll see there are lethal-looking spikes sticking out of it. Now, that’s not very friendly, is it?

Meanwhile, Lady GaGa ran through the whole gamut of ridiculous outfits - starting off with this little number…

Want to nab a similar get-up for yourself? It’s by Jean Paul Gaultier.

GaGa - who picked up three gongs at the event - ended the evening with a controversial performance of her single ‘Paparazzi’. Apparently, she smothered herself in fake blood then hung from the ceiling, pretending to be dead. (At least, I hope she was pretending. Has anyone checked?)

Meanwhile, Pink and Shakira were doubtless overjoyed when they realised they’d shown up wearing the same leather frock…

…thus ensuring a prime spot for both of them in this week’s smattering of “Who wore it best?” galleries.

And Jennifer Lopez went for a swept-back ‘do, low-cut minidress and animal print shoes…

…while the night’s big winner Beyoncé looked stunning in red…

Beyoncé picked up the coveted award for Video of the Year - after her misguided mate Kanye West had stormed the stage to sing her praises, right in the middle of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video.

Poor old Kanye: he obviously doesn’t get out much nowadays…

The actress showed off her new two-tone hair (easily achieved by dipping your tresses into a bottle of ink, fashion fans) and a matching black and yellow prom dress at last night’s Toronto Film Festival screening of her latest movie Whip It.

Those ridiculous celebrity surveys just keep on coming, folks!

The latest? Women who look like newly inducted This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby have a better chance of landing a top job, according to a new poll from Boots. (Damn - I knew I’d been going wrong somewhere.)

Apparently, Holly’s natural appearance and glossy lips are perfect for interviews. “She’s polished but not too made up, which is a winning look,” says celebrity make-up artist Lisa Eldridge.

Incidentally, Holly beat off glamorous competition from fellow natural beauties Cheryl Cole and Myleene Klass in the poll. Ah, if only those two looked more like Ms Willoughby, they could be on TV all the time. Oh - hang on…

Oh, I do apologise. It’s celebrated fashionista Victoria Beckham doing a spot of clothes-signing and po-faced posing at last night’s Fashion Night Out event in swanky New York store Bergdorf Goodman.

Her outfit for the occasion? A rather racy Giles Deacon animal-print minidress and thigh-high boots. Yeah, that’s what I always wear when I go shopping - don’t you?

Meanwhile, back in Los Angeles, David Beckham arrived "home" from his working trip to Blighty - and, by the looks of it, almost held hands with a policeman at the airport…

Reality TV stars rally for the high street

He may have helped England secure a place in the World Cup on Wednesday night - but the highlight of Jermain Defoe’s week was surely getting to attend last night’s Prima High Street Fashion Awards in Battersea.

After all, not only did he get to pose for pictures with his girlfriend, Big Brother star Imogen Thomas, but he was also able to rub shoulders with the likes of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’s Nicola McLean…

Nicola - who purely coincidentally shares a management team with Peter Andre - hit the gossip columns earlier this week for branding Katie Price “vile”.

Anything else, Nic? “I’m a million times better than Jordan,” she insisted. “If I get the same opportunities, I will take over because I’m much more likeable and real.” Hmmm… she sounds really likeable already, doesn’t she?

Ah, that’s lucky. When I first glanced at this snap of a celebrity arriving at LAX airport in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon, I couldn’t quite place her. But thankfully, she had the foresight to wear a vest with her name on it.

Yes folks, it’s everyone’s favourite hotel heiress Paris Hilton and on-off-in-out-up-and-down boyfriend Doug Reinhardt en route to Germany…

Lucky old Germany, eh?

Katie is all-powerful in the country

Subscribers to Country Life magazine will doubtless be chuffed to bits to note that Katie Price gets a big shout-out in the new issue.

The reason? Apparently, our Katie is one of the 100 most powerful people in rural communities.

Admittedly, she only made the list by the skin of her megabucks veneers - coming in at a modest No.100. Still, the under-fire glamour girl needs all the glowing endorsements she can get at the moment, so she’ll probably be pretty pleased with this one.

“The model-turned-equestrienne is a more astute businesswoman than her fluffy pink gilets and red-top exploits indicate,” the magazine states. “She’s an ambassador for the 2012 equestrian sports, and the massive queues at her stand at Badminton and Burghley are testament to her drawing power.”

Coming soon: Railway Enthusiast magazine lists Katie at No.72 in its annual rundown of the Top Brits Who Live Within A Couple Of Miles Of A Railway Station.

Heather Mills and SATC star share style guru

Has anyone else noticed the growing number of Anne Robinson lookalikes that have infiltrated the celebrity world recently?

Some examples? Well, just look at Heather Mills’ new hairdo…

Yep, she’s gone for a short red crop not dissimilar to Anne’s - but with added lacquer. Like it?

(In case you were wondering, this picture was taken during the launch of a new healthy eating initiative at the weekend. Heather’s two companions are vegan twins, Lela and Jaffy Carr-Bond. Yep, they’re not just twins - they’re vegan twins. You’ve gotta have a gimmick, folks!)

And here’s Cynthia Nixon filming an ‘80s flashback scene for the new Sex and the City movie yesterday afternoon…

It could almost be Anne on her first day at Watchdog, couldn’t it?

So who’ll be next to go for the Robinson look? Hmmm… I wonder what Victoria Beckham would look like with red hair…

Robbie beats Liam in island showdown

Comeback king Robbie Williams has received one of the greatest accolades in the music business: he’s been voted the male singer with whom we’d most like to be stranded on a desert island.

Meanwhile, Rob’s old adversary Liam Gallagher was the least popular choice in the highly important survey by royalties service PRS For Music.

I reckon Robbie would expect quite a lot from his desert island partner, though. Through it all, she’d offer him protection, a lot of love and affection - whether he’s right or wrong. Or so I’ve heard.

And the most popular female singing desert island companion? It’s Kylie Minogue - who beat off stiff competition from Cheryl Cole to secure the top slot. She should be so lucky, eh?

Gorgeous George does Venice

What a trooper! Despite his “waving hand” being wrapped up in a bandage, George Clooney was happy to pose for pics at the Venice Film Festival yesterday afternoon.

The occasion? A photo call for his new movie, The Men Who Stare At Goats. And the reason for the bandage? He was bitten by an angry goat during filming. No, I’m only kidding. (Kidding! Geddit? Ahem. Sorry.) Apparently, he accidentally shut his hand in a car door.

George was joined at the photo call by equally easy-on-the-eye co-star Ewan McGregor…

…then hotfooted it to the movie’s premiere with his latest squeeze, Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis…

This is the first time George and Elisabetta have “gone public” with their two-month-old relationship - but it looks like they passed the red carpet test with flying colours.

So will George finally settle down and get married? “I’ve been asked that question every year for 20 years,” George told reporters. “The answer remains the same - I don’t know.”

Fab four back on Sex and the City set

OK, folks - here’s a teaser for you. Hidden somewhere in this crowd of camera-touting Muggles are four very familiar faces. Can you spot them?

Yep, all four Sex and the City girls - Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon - are now back on set for the movie sequel, which caused no end of excitement in New York yesterday afternoon…

As an aside, I’m not too keen on those cut-out details in Kim’s dress, though - are you?

Anyway, Sarah and Kim seemed particularly pleased to see one another when they first met up on set…

Just hamming it up for the cameras? Perish the thought!

GQ Men of the Year upstaged by women

Heavens to Betsy! It sounds like last night’s GQ Men of the Year Awards was very eventful indeed - with plenty of eye-popping fashion and a smattering of hissy-fits. Marvellous!

First up, Kelly Brook opted for a figure-hugging frock - which, she was more than happy to announce, was made entirely from rubber. “It took a lot of talcum powder to get me into it,” she purred.

Not to be outdone, Lily Allen sported impressive hair extensions together with a sheer flared trouser-suit…

Several tabloids have branded Lily’s outfit a fashion faux pas - but, for what it’s worth, I think she looks gorgeous. Still, what would I know?

Lily picked up the gong for Woman of the Year - but her red-carpet moment was overshadowed when her old mate Kate Moss stormed past, announcing she was “going home and never coming here again” (with a few choice expletives thrown in).

The problem? Nobody’s really sure - but apparently, Kate may have taken offence to something host James Nesbitt said about her on stage. Ah, get over yourself, love!

Anyway, here’s Kate beating a hasty retreat to her car - together with boyfriend Jamie Hince and one-man entourage, hairdresser James Brown…

Meanwhile, back on the red carpet, X Factor superstar Alexandra Burke turned a few heads by sporting a new hairdo and this Union Jack-inspired minidress…

Still, GQ’s International Man of the Year Mickey Rourke only had eyes for his “plus one” - who’s so far known only to the tabloids as “a stunning blonde”…

Other winners included Guy Ritchie (hurrah!) for Alfred Dunhill Film-Maker, Elvis Costello (woo-hoo!) for Outstanding Achievement, and Shadow Chancellor George Osborne (oh!) for Politician.

TV’s big night out

Look out, kids! If you don’t eat your greens and go to bed on time, this little lot will come round and cackle at you.

From left to right in this scary-looking foursome at last night’s TV Quick and TV Choice Awards, we have: EastEnder Linda Henry, Waterloo Road’s Denise Welch, Strictly Come Dancing winner Jill Halfpenny and yet another Albert Square regular, Rita Simons.

And - look! Here’s a whole bunch of Denise’s co-presenters from Loose Women - who appear positively serene by comparison…

Mind you, this picture was taken a lot earlier in the evening.

Meanwhile, you’ll doubtless be chuffed to bits to see that former Apprentice stars Kate Walsh and Philip Taylor are still very much an item. (Phil even brought an overnight bag along - wahey!)

As you may already know, Kate’s about to start work as a presenter on a new Five entertainment show. And Phil? He’s “weighing up business offers”. One word, mate: Pantsman.

And finally, tabloid-tastic EastEnders stars Danniella Westbrook and Steve McFadden wore their very best fixed smiles for the cameras…

Oh, and apparently Peter Andre was spotting hugging Noel Edmonds - although I’ve yet to find a picture of this touching moment. Still, could this be the beginning of a beautiful friendship?
