Hat’s entertainment!
Posted by Jane Murphy
Shock news, folks! The results of this year’s Celebrity Hat Wearers survey have just been unveiled - and France’s First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has beaten our very own Queen Elizabeth II to the top spot.
How so? “Carla’s neat, chic, pill-box hat was a supreme example of classic simplicity at its best,” explains milliner Philip Wright. “It was a stylish understatement which captured the attention of the world’s media.”
Third place went to the Queen’s off-radar daughter-in-law, Sophie, Countess of Wessex. According to Philip, she opts for “more feminine styles, including a particularly eye-catching one with a feather trim”. Oooh - fancy!
Victoria Beckham was next on the list, closely followed by Madonna.
Can’t recall seeing Madge in a hat recently? Nor could I - but apparently this headdress thingy, worn at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, counts as a hat…
Philip explains: “Madonna’s ‘winged’ hat, coordinated with her turquoise dress, raised a few eyebrows - but it was adventurous and fun and deserves recognition.”
Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman topped the list of male celebrity hat-wearers. But having started to trawl through our picture archives looking for a snap of Hugh in a hat, I suddenly realised life was too short to spend any more time lingering over this topic…
