Chris Moyles rapped for Will Young jibe

Gobby Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles has had his knuckles well and truly rapped for mocking Will Young's sexuality in a satirical song.
Apparently, eight listeners complained after Moylesy used a high-pitched, effeminate voice to parody Will in his breakfast show on 20 January.
Now, eight may not sound like very many - but remember, that's still six more than the original number of complaints received after Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross's infamous Sachsgate show first aired.
Anyway, media watchdog Ofcom has ruled that although the song was "intended to be humorous", it had the "potential to cause considerable offence" and contained comments which were "hostile" and "pejorative".
Hmmm... I have to admit I'm a bit torn on this one. I don't like Chris Moyles or his spiteful schoolboy humour. In fact, I tend to turn off the radio and listen to other people using the bathroom first thing in the morning. It's far more relaxing.
But by making a huge fuss about every childish joke or jibe that airs on radio or TV, aren't we being a tad oversensitive and playing into the hands of overzealous censors?
When it comes to broadcasters like Mr Moyles, I prefer to employ that age-old tactic: ignore them and eventually they'll go away.

Lets get a big ball of cotton wool and parcel it up in some bubble wrap, then incase that in hardened foam......just incase it gets hurt. Do we not have anything better to worry about! I am sure Will Young is fine and understands the joke! As for Chris Moyles....long may he continue, what alternative do we have!!!

What a lot of fuss about nothing. If you don't like Moyles switch over to Radio 2! I'm sure Will Young has a sense of humour and had a giggle at it along with the rest of us, it is harmless fun unless of course you are so uptight you couldn't spell sense of humour let alone find one! Good on Chris and his team, keep the parodys coming - cheers up my mornings no end!

I don't listen to Moylesey but schoolboy humour is the next great loss to PC Britain.
Has anyone asked Will Young if he was offended?
Look at it this way, CM obviously thinks WY is worthy of parody. It is in a backhanded way a compliment.
Sick to death of people getting on their high horses over things.

Er.... Will Young was not offended in anyway shape or form by the parody. As it has been stated before; Will and Chris are friends. And if you had listened to the show then you'd understand that the "presenters" usually contact those who are involved in the paradoy. People - get over yourselves. What happened to this country being free? Are we turning into a place where you can't look at someone the wrong way for fear of being dragged over the coals.
Does ths mean that those who laughed at the Will Young parody are homophobic... then that's me. I laughed. Oh dear, my gay friends are going to have to lynch me! And themselves come to think of it as they were laughing too.

Chris Moyels got boring about 8 years ago, he was funny to begin with a bit different and fairly witty but he went downhill fast and has just got worse as the years have gone on. he makes himself look like a petty, spiteful, childish bully. and as for will young and him being friends i think will would disagree from what i have read in interviews. but yeah what moyels said/did/sang about will is no more offensive than things u see and hear on tv. beeb over reacting as per.

I think the writer of this article needs to really listen to popular opinion. It appears far more people support Moyles and understand the concept of comedy than you. The same could be said of Ofcom. Yes minorites need protecting from offence, but this was not offensive. If anything the writer of the article needs to apologise to us Orange customers. Further the comment about there being 8 complaints, two more than Sachsgate is absurd when you compare the number of listeners per show. So stop moaning about him, and listen to our views.

If you don't like the man turn him off - stop listening, he won't care - I wouldn't mind but him and Will Young are mates, he wouldn't offend him!! Why oh why does the Beeb allow its standards to continually drop with the deeply offensive ramblings of fools.
Why even employ these people? Is there such a shortage of real comedians and disco people to present these shows.

My comment is similar to all the others really. People need to stop being offended at things people say and get over themselves!!! There are some people in this world who will just complain at everything and anything because they feel like complaining. It is best to ignore these attention seekers. Everytime I decide to give Radio 1 a 'second chance' in the morning, Moyles is just rabbiting on making fun of some one or talking about nothing, so I switch to a local radio station that actually plays music.

People should learn to take a joke for the sake or comedy, it was meant to be a comical thing for the show and his intention was to make people laugh. Isn't that what people want to do? Even if it is at the tiny expense of rich and famous celebrities?
Soon, radio stations will be boring and plain with the same old subtle humour attempting to light up people's days. It's going too far in my opinion.

To all those saying we should switch off or tune into another radio station - we pay our licence fee which pays Chris Moyles' wages, so we have every right to voice our opinion.
It isn't humorous to mock someone's sexuality. As pointed out, this show has many listeners who are of impressionable age. Should we teach them it's okay to ridicule others? Where does it end?
(and yes, we do have a sense of humour and a life so try to think of something more intelligent than that tedious response)

Ok if presenters are so concerned and held back by political correctness then life is going to be pretty dull. However Chris Moyles is just not funny! I agree with another comment on here that he tries to get laughs at other peoples misfortunes. He is your typical "pull your school tie out and yank your cap right down over your head" type of character. The guy has no natural personality or comedy about him.

Well there is two ways to look at it. You could think that its only a little bit of light hearted humour which doesn't hurt anybody, or you could think that the fact that Chris Moyles has so many listeners (of which many are probably young and impressionable) shouldn't be so derogatory. In the words of Ben Parker.. "with great power comes great responsibility". Of course only 8 people complained, but that doesn't mean only 8 people were offended. Is it okay to make light-hearted jokes about race? No. So why is it okay to make jokes about sexuality? I leave the question hanging..

I didn't here Moyles this time but he does it all the time. He doesn't have a funny bone in his body, nor an ounce of talent. He gets cheap laughs by slagging of someone different every day. Sadly some members of society think it's funny to hear someone else tear someone to shreds publicly. I wonder how they would feel if they were getting humiliated on national radio. Moyles should maybe stop and think how it makes the other person feel once in a while...but then he couln't give a monkeys how it makes them feel...cheap laughs are easy to come by and when you've got no other talent you'll revert to desperate measures.

Try listening to the dull droan of our local radio now Heart (formerley radio broadland)where the music is constantly repeated day in day out and the dj's at best are dull!!!

Good god, all the papers have is doom and gloom with the odd dig at some celeb or another, news is full of doom and gloom and credit crunch blah blah blah, people are losing homes, jobs, money so really is there not something else people should be doing than concentrating efforts on censoring things to the point of pettiness that might give some of the population a small laugh or smile???? I mean perhaps these over sensitive individuals should [a] turn off the radio, [b] switch to another channel or [c] put their talents to complaining about things that actually do matter such as the state of the economy and the idiots that are running it and not some guy on the radio that really isn't intending anyone any harm. I agree with the guy above GET A LIFE and also yep think Will would not be offended as Jeremy Clarkson remarked on Will Young and something to do with looking like he had been axed through the head or something and then when he had Will on Top Gear he told him what he'd said and it was brilliant interview and the both guys have sense of humours so leave Moyles, Clarkson and anyone else just trying to instill a bit of fun into most peoples would be dull working days!!!!

I agree with the above. It was neither offensive or homophobic. This country needs to complain about the PC brigade. Moyles is funny, and irreverent, not offensive. What would have happened to Python, or that was the week that was if the PC brigade were around in the 60's and 70's. Now regarded as classics but clearly offensive under this definition. Lets think would we now ban the Lumber Jack song from Python, now a classic? Please grow up!
