Kerry's meltdown: the fallout

By now, you've probably seen Kerry Katona's shambling appearance on yesterday's This Morning. And whatever the truth behind her slurred speech and apparent discomfort, you've got to admit: something's not quite right here.

According to the Daily Mirror, Kerry had been downing Sambuca shots backstage at ITV2's Celebrity Juice on Tuesday night - so that can't have helped.

However, the former Atomic Kitten still insists she wasn't drunk. "I haven't got a booze problem," she told reporters outside her Cheshire home. "I feel completely stitched up. I am extremely annoyed at how they made me look."

Still, Kerry's publicist Max Clifford says he's increasingly concerned for her health. "She's a fragile little soul," he said in a radio interview. "I need to sit down and talk to her. Kerry is more than just a client. I've grown very close to her over the last five years through all the dramas and heartache she's had."

RATINGS....The first word anyone at this morning or ITV thought when they realised the state of Kerry!! You can't just walk into the studio building and sit on fern and phils couch without being let in and meeting at least 1 or 2 people even if she did arrive late and whoever that was would have alerted bosses and they let this trainwreck go ahead simply for ratings!! If they didn;t realised as soon as the interview started and they realised her state they could have stopped the interview and went to a break or made up some story about why it has stopped (like the story they made up about not knowing her state) but they didn't publicity and ratings! And Fern and Phil should be ashamed who is trying to be Jeremy Kyle with his hard headed interview style...p rick! She should have started asking Fatty Fern about her recent scandals and phil about his small winky!! that woulda shut them up!!

Oh my God who actually cares, what has she actually done with her life she's not a celebrity she makes a fool out of herself all the time. She made one record years ago which happened to be crap and married sonmeone famous, BIG DEAL!!! Shes not talented and it bugs me that she gets paid for being an idiot. Phil and Fern were just doing there job and you could tell they did genuinely care. Kerry also turned up 5 minutes before the interview went on air so nobody was really aware of what she was like. Also just quickly Bipolar medication doesn't make you behave like that no way, she's just a alcoholic druggie and if it were anyone else the kids would be taken into care!!! And Brian needs to sort something out because my husband would never let me look after our children in that state.

If anyone was trying to pull a publicity stunt it was ITV. If she was really in that bad a state and was drunk then any considerate, even professional person would not have allowed her on tv. They will have noticed her slurred speech straight away and thought ... RATINGS!!
I think Phil and Fern were so horrible to her. There was really no need for them to be the way they were. For Fern to bring up things from a magazine was so contradicting. For some one who has just had to put up with so much criticism themselves, to turn round to someone and talk them down about the same thing happening to them is disgusting.
And as for anyone saying shes a bad mother and refering to her comments about her eldest helping out, have you ever lived in a big family?? Everyone helps out and the oldest, especially being a girl, is going to want to be mum isnt she??
I think everyone should give her a break!! So what if she was drunk, didnt Noel Gallagher do the same thing on radio one not long ago ?? And did anyone make this much fuss over him ... no .. it was seen as fun listening !!

Why can't people see that this is a pure publicity stunt. She's definitely high on drugs but i'm guessing someone like Max Clifford advised her to get high before going on live tv so that it would create alot of media interest as it obviously has.Is there nothing Kerry and Max won't do for publicity? bipolar medication can cause slurring as it tranquillizing the brain. No-one knows if Kerry had been drinking the night before, but if she had, this would possibly make symptoms worse. I she had been made aware of how she sounded, she may have had the sense to cancel the interview - though as she has know philip schofield for some time, she probably didnt think she would have been set on in this manner. Yes, Kerry moved around alot, but part of being bipolor is having a more manic side. She looked genuinely shocked and cornered and I think she should have been taken off air at the adverts instead of being put through this. Just shows what ignorance there still is towards mental health issues.

i saw the this morning inerview with kerry, and i have to agree with her,she was ambushed,and i think anyone in her position at that moment in time would have reacted exactly the same as she did.Poor kerry looked cornered and if i were her i don't think i could have got through the interview as well as ahe did.If phil was so concerned about her than he wouldn't have put her in that situation on live tv,the interview only lasted 10 mins for god sake,then went to an ad break,surely anyone with an brain cell could have waited it out till then,and asked what was going on in the break.That was not concern it was purely a little man trying to make a name for himself,he showed pure arrogance in the way he spoke to her,and knew what would happen by his actions on the show.all the negative publicity again.He is no better than the other people selling stories on her.All he could gain from that is making her feel bad about herself,which i think is her only problem,she should be supported for her to gain her confidence back.

Oh my God! Sat down for a cuppa and couldn't believe what I saw. What was all the jumping and twitching every time she said "yes" about if she wasn't drunk or on drugs. Someone needs to look after that poor girl before her kids suffer. Please tell me they are not having to witness her behaving like that! I think Phil and Ferm did great - what the hell do you say to someone who is completely "gone" and doesn't understand anything they said to her. Go Phil and Fern!

Personally, I think Phil and Fern behaved admirably. If I'd have been faced with a slurring, rambling woman on live TV I certainly wouldn't have kept my cool as well as they did.

But I can't help feeling sorry for Kerry. She has completely lost herself to the idealised image of 'celebrity' - fancy houses, cars, bodies - and in the process has seemed to lose herself. I don't know precisely who's to blame, Mark or Kerry or a combination of both. All I do know is that instead of doing TV interviews and magazine shoots, she should focus more on finding herself through her children. There's more to life than the finer things and maybe if she went back to nothing, she'd appreciate everything a little more. Time out of the public domain would really help her. The problem with the viewing public is that most of us like to see celbrities fall off the pedestal we put them on ourselves, so there will always be a demand. Poor Kerry really needs to get back to basics.

If she has mental/substance abuse then get her professional help and enable her to function the best she is able.

If it is just a ploy to create publicity starve her of the attention as that will more more effective than highlighting the tripe being spouted or ranting about what she is getting away with and getting payment through the attention.

I am in complete agreement. She is more than obviously on some form of powdered drug as well as well pills. Why are giving her air time - she needs to be left to her own devices and to rot. Do we not have more important things happening in our economy with recession / credit crunch / violence figures and crime figures? This Morning showed some bits of the interview again today and explained what happened yesterday. It was said that "people" close to Kerry hadn't noticed anything wrong with her speech before she went on air and also that she was late arriving meaning no-one had a chance to speak to her before going live! Today Phil had to read out a statement from Kerry's husband which said "how hurt and upset Kerry (and he) felt by the way she was treated on live tv", however she certainly didn't seem hurt or upset yesterday. If Mark knew that Kerry was taking prescription drugs which made her speech slurred then as a loving husband, why let her agree to doing a live interview? If he knew her speech was slurred yesterday then why let her leave home? Also if he was so angry and upset at the way the interview was going, why did he just stand watching, letting it continue? He done NOTHING to stop it and now complains!
Phil and Fern are great presenters and were, as always, extremely professional despite the difficulties faced.

Best thing i've seen on TV for ages. Love all these biffs on here saying 'oh poor Kerry!' She has whored every aspect of her and her kids lifes to the media for money, she sold her soul, now she is paying the price. What did she expect? What goes up must come down. Just a bad warrington sweat.

Blimey guys, does it really matter whether she was drunk, on drugs, medication or not, it's her life, she wasn't hurting anyone, she can do what she likes. This interview could have been cut short, someone must've noticed before she went on set, but they went ahead with it, asking inappropriate, provoking questions, coz ppl thrive on the misfortunes of celebs. Give her a break I say, if shes in a bad place it's coz the press put her there! I'm sure that Amy Winehouse for example is doing much better now that the press have given her enough space to breathe!

The root of Kerrys problem is the split from Brian, he was a real "rat" to her, I dont think she will ever get over him!! Why blame her husband - she's 28 NOT 8, she's made more than enough money sitting at home, snorting coke or whatever else gets her high and we've paid for it for her, feeling sorry for her, watching tatty tv programmes, reading magazines about how she loves her kids, cars, house - rubbish, she's not had any kind of 'celebrity' since Bryan came to his senses and buggered off with a decent bird, Kerry has never gotten over that and probably never will. I remember her bragging that she was a millionaire when she presented Loose Women how the mighty have fallen. I don't feel sorry for her she is a disgrace of a womman and she shouldn't be allowed to bring up here children in that sort of state and her husband is a pig for letting her do the interview. I think Phillip and Fern were very professional and dealt with the situation excellently.

Surely there would have been a pre-interview briefing in which someone on GMTV would have spoken to her and realised that she was slurring and not quite on the planet, why on Earth did they not suggest it would be best if she didn't go on. I guess they thought they had a 'scoop'.
Don't get me wrong I don't have any sympathy for such a mess head, I just can't believe they actually let her on to humiliate her.
I think she needs to take a long hard look at herself, and I don't mean at her new body after all the surgery, I mean she actually needs to sort herself out.
Number one suggestion: Ditch the husband.

I'm not her biggest fan BUT - after watching that interview I'd say she was not drunk at all (you can see it in someones face) . He speech was weird though ... dunno what thats all about (medication? put on?) .

Why cant she accept the fact that she is finished as a celeb & try & live a normal every day life like the rest of us have to 'cope' with.

I have to say after seeing the interview on You Tube this morning it was very disturbing. Her husband should feel absolutely ashamed of himself for allowing her to go on television in front of millions of viewers in that state. I can only think he allowed this interview to go ahead because he wanted her to suffer the public humiliation and the press reaction to this. I have to say that Fern and Philip really dealt with the situation really well which just goes to show how professional they are. Kerry has obviously had some serious issues to deal with in her life and I have to say that I feel she should not be punished for the way she behaved she obviously cannot help herself. I feel the culprit is her husband Mark who allowed this farce I feel he should be the one that the public should slam.

You should have stopped that interview straight away you had the power to do so, the girl is desparately ill and what her so called husband was thinking of allowing her to go on your show I will never understand? I noted she kept looking up toward him its as though he's got her on some kind on leash. It was agonising watching her embarrass herself in that way. Phil and fern should have put a stop to it. So what if she did have a few drinks back stage, is there any real harm in that,she was proberbly nervous after all the crap she keeps getting.

Kerry is not well, and on medication, i blame her MOM and BRIAN for all that has happened to her, they are forever slatting her to the papers, or magazines.

Leave the poor girl alone man, she as got 4 kids to bring up, and i for one think she is doing a very good job of it, so what that the other kids help out with nappies etc, no different to any other familys life thats part and parcel of being a family to help each other.

Oh and as for drugs, she admitted that she did this years ago and that she is no more, at least she was honest, and drugs dont do anything to your mouth at all, i know this to be true as i work in the community with drug takers.

And people wonder why she is always in the press, not by her own doing, its everyone else that cant leave her alone and always after find something to say about her.

If you want to slat any one about drinking and drugs talk about Amy Winehouse and the rest of them as they seem to get away with it, it seems ok for them to do.

At least Kerry is clean and tidy with a loving family. You should be proud of yourself Kerry, you have done more than anyone else as.

Look at the way her bottom jaw is moved forward? Is this not a classic sign of drug use? I am not expert and have never used myself, but I have noticed this involentary reaction with their jaw on others who are using a white powder (coke) and valium.....
