Liz Hurley’s back in the papers today for all the wrong reasons, following the shocking allegations that she’s been paying her Indian-born maid less than half the minimum wage
Liz, former face of Estée Lauder, and reportedly worth a cool £13m, apparently paid 31-year-old Violet D’Souza the princely sum of £1.20 an hour for doing the cooking and cleaning. At that rate, it would take a fair few hours to bag herself enough cash to pop down to Boots for a bottle of Pleasures, Liz’s bestselling scent.
The case was due to go before an employment tribunal tomorrow, but Liz and husband Arun Nayar have reputedly settled the case with a five-figure sum.
What with Newsnight’s Mr. Angry Jeremy Paxman in the news the other week for similar, slave-driving reasons, one has to wonder what planet these celebs are living on.
Are they genuinely malicious, stingy Scrooges, unwilling to shell out more than a measly few quid of their vast fortunes to get their underpants ironed? Or is it just that they haven’t got a clue how much real people earn?

hurley is just a middle class punk rock girl who hung with new age travellers of whom some were Drom, gypsies originally from India. so it does not surprise me she married Arun.
as well, rich ppl like hurlet tend to be tight with their money cos they consider it a waste to spend on anything or anyone inferior to their level of success. this includes hired help.

Remind me what is she famous for again?? Oh yes now I remember....wearing that God awful dress with the safety pins. Has she done anything else noteworthy since, apart from under paying her maid?

Liz hurley is a tw@t anyway - I remember watching a programme with her in it and she said she would die if she was fat - ie like Marilyn Monroe !!! That sexy curvacious had 100x more class than that woman. Liz is just scum in a fur coat. As for the cleaner - hopefully she did the right thing and p!ssed in her food and used the same cloth to clean her kitchen that she used to clean the bog !!!!

Sadly I think that celeb's believe that, they are better than we are - but without us they would be working in burger king like the rest of us – and I for one don’t think they are better than me, they just have more money and you don’t see her smile very often do you

What a disgrace she is and to think I fancied her. Some celebs will be genuinely out of touch but not many. Liz knows what £1.20 buys so it is relevant. The should take her to the cleaners.

Well, what do you expect from the woman who, rather than pay a much needed £1000 fee to the Church she married in last year, gave them embroidered cushions instead! She is over paid and way under talented. These people are rich materially, but poor as human beings, and she will end up being a thin old woman with a vacuous life and a few vacuous friends (Elton John) in a short time. I don't have her money or fame, but I prefer my life, and get much more back by being generous without expecting anything in return. Shame on you "Liz".

most famous celebs are greedy, can't believe she is so tight with her money, she could pay 40xtimes that an hour.most celebs loose there staff because they treat them horrible, nothing special about them anyway,most turn out with drug problems.im glad i have no money

When some people become rich they also become crazy. I remember a celebrity who although rich ate cheap boil in the bag dinner. When you've got more money than you can spend and your still generating an income, live life to the full. Why scrimp and scrape like some do, asking for cheap flights and free holidays because they are celebrities. These celebrities also treat their staff like crap and wonder why they tell all to the newspapers.
