Don't do it, Lotus!
Posted by Cameron Countach
Before motoring fans have had the opportunity to recover from the shock they experienced after seeing the Aston Martin Cygnet supermini, another major British sports car marque has unveiled a dubious-looking city car. This time its Lotus's turn to become the laughing stock of the motoring world, all thanks to its imagining of what a city car of the future will look like.
Luckily for the whole of mankind, the Lotus City Car may just stay as a design, as it was created by Lotus for Automotive Engineer magazine. The mag asked the Gaydon-based marque to come up with a design which, according the publication's website, can show "how far city car design can go". So, not very far then, from the looks of things.
OK. So maybe we’re going a little overboard with the hate. But, as far as we’re concerned, Lotus is a legendary British institution, long known for making some of the finest sports cars ever to come from these isles. So there really is no need for the company to ruin its legacy by turning out a city car, especially one that isn’t really an improvement on other city motors out there such as the iQ, Smart car and the recently launched Tata Nano.
Anyway, we just thought we’d get that point in, in the event Lotus gets any daft ideas about actually making it. Let us know your opinion about the Lotus supermini below.
